Wintry inaugural for Gov. Fallin at State Capitol

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Despite the light snow and cold temperatures, Mary Fallin was sworn in as Oklahoma’s 27th governor at noon Monday.

Fallin, dressed warmly and donning a light-blue scarf, the color of both the Oklahoma state flag and the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, was sworn in as governor following the swearing in of other elected state government officials, including Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb.

Snow was gathering on the Capitol dome as security officials could be seen in ski masks and camouflage on the roof, peering out over the medium-sized crowd. Yes, there were plenty of empty chairs on a day of cold, inclement weather as well as being on a weekday.

And as for the security, there was a sense that beefing-up security was wise in light of the massacre in Tucson, Ariz. this past week that left half-a-dozen dead, including a federal judge, as well as a U.S. congresswoman seriously injured by the assassin’s bullet.
