The nation's African-American population continued its southward migration over the past decade, shifting a large part of the black middle class from northern states to faster-growing economies of the South.
Among 25 big U.S. metro areas with the largest growth in African-American population between 2000 and 2009, 16 were in the Southincluding Atlanta and Dallasaccording to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey. Among the big losers were cities in the North and West, including Detroit, Los Angeles and Cleveland.
The biggest gainer was Atlanta, a magnet for black professionals. Its metro area added about 500,000 African-Americans between the 2000 and 2009 period, and more than twice the next-largest numeric gainer, Dallas, according to an analysis of Census data by William H. Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. Over the same period, the share of Atlanta's 25-and-over black population that had college degrees increased to 24.6% in 2009 from 21.5% in 2000.

.....oh she'll have a robust black cultural experiance alright...last time I checked New Orleans was the poster child for black on black murder.
Oh, joy. And gladness.
As long as they don’t reinstitute segregation by self-segregating, I don’t begrudge anyone from getting away from the Liberal Rot that is the NORTH.
apologies to our GOOD Northern neighbors.
Is rot to strong a word?
Wherever there is an “urban” area, north or south, you have rot, and it is the very same variety. The north has more rot because we have bigger cities and more of them.
“a desire to give her daughter the “robust black cultural experiences”
I don’t blame here one bit for wanting this for her child. I just long for the day I could tell a reporter the same without being labeled part of a hate group.
And Larger cities, much older.
Rather than preserve the heritage that the older buildings provided many were bulldozed to make way for the giant warehousers of business and people.
I like historical preservation. Important to giving a sense of stability.
Living in Mississippi, I know several people who moved back from Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles. They like the slower life in Mississippi, as well as the warmer weather. The biggest thing they left for, Democrat Jim Crow laws, Racist Lynchings and Church-bombings, have been eliminated.
I don’t blame them for wanting to go back to their roots. I long for the deep South myself at times.
Hey they’re not stupid...they know where the jobs are...I happy up here in Cleveland, Ohio myself...
I’m pretty happy in WV too, but I do miss Ala. sometimes.

....ain’t that the truth!....and btw, we moved from a highly multi-cultural urban area to a Southern rural county that’s 98% Anglo-European/Judeo-Christian....what a difference!...low crime, good schools, family oriented, honest efficient government and low taxes.
