RENDELL’S LEGACY: HIGH TAXES, LOW RATINGS AND CLENCHED TEETH
Philadelphia Magazine ^ | 11 Jan 2011 | Chris Freind

Posted on 01/11/2011 7:14:59 AM PST by grace522

After eight disastrous years as Pennsylvania’s Governor, Ed Rendell being viewed as a “good guy” is as likely as the Eagles’ winning this year’s Super Bowl: nonexistent.

Up to this point, his legacy was known for three things: the introduction of gambling, which did not live up to the promise of tax-relief; huge tax hikes, coupled with a 40 per cent increase in state spending; and a perception of widespread pay-to-play within his Administration. Of lesser note but still sore subjects were his signing an unconstitutional legislative pay raise and not getting a single budget passed on time --- budgets that were full of smoke and mirrors, such as imaginary revenue from the failed I-80 tolling plan. But now, the image of Rendell that is etched in people’s minds is the Governor blowing his top during one of his final interviews.

With teeth clenched in a menacing growl, he karate-chops the air and literally screams at 60 Minutes interviewer Lesley Stahl that … “You guys don't get that. You're simpletons. You're idiots if you don't get that." He was defending his position that gaming was good for Pennsylvania, under the rationale that if gamblers are going to lose their paychecks anyway, it’s better for state coffers if they lose them in Pennsylvania....

“Rendell’s Legacy: High Taxes, Low Ratings and Clenched Teeth”

Should read: “Rendells’ Legacy: High Taxes, Low Ratings,
Clenched Teeth and Brilliant Adherence to the Leftist Agenda”

IMHO

Sad story for a once great state.
They went FROM:

“Virtue, Liberty & Independence”

TO:

“Pennsylvania: Cook With Coal”

“Philly, The City of Brotherly Love (But not the Gay Kind)”

“Pennsylvania: Free Lube Job With Oil Change”

“Pennsylvania, Amish Girls do It Manually”

“Pennsylvania: If I Had a Car, I’d be Home Now”

The only thing that will save Pennsylvania: free tickets to places that have jobs.

As a local, I can tell you. Rendull ran the state like he was running that corrupt black hole Philly. He used every opportunity to take issues facing the state and turn them into a Lib crusade for nanny state Gov't using his thug tactics. Guns, Spending and tons of extra Gov't employees. He is a failure and will never be able to lose the black eye he deserves for being a poor leader.

Just remember this fat idiots budget busting spending and his shrines to Murtha and Spector as a final FU to the state. Those alone will cost tens of millions.

Don't be so sure. There is a noticeable air of optimism here in the southwest portion of the state where we will soon be swearing in one of our own as the next governor and natural gas isn't the only industry which is showing signs of growth.

An article in our local paper shows the TEA Party enjoys a 3-1 favorability rating in our corner of the Commonwealth. For us, an eight year nightmare is about to end.

I remember Rendell on Fox claiming there wasn't a deficit ia Pa. I also remember about him pounding his fist on the desk and Mario walking out of the room; what a joke.

We moved to Alaska from Crawford Co in 1990's. In ak, no state taxes, no prop taxes, no local taxes; can't imagine why I stayed in Pa as long as I did? I figure it can only get worse there too, sad.

Sounds good-but I was really thinking of the SE part of the State. Parts of Philly would be better off empty. Addition through subtraction.

IIRC, REndell was going to executive order the Shale Oil developement bidness out of business in the name of Green Energy.

When I find the articles, I’ll send them to you.

What a guy! /s

Sayonara, Ed. Take your high taxes with you. We're still reading articles about your cronies trying to tax Marcellus Shale deposits - destroy another industry before it gets started.
