Sales of semi-automatic Glock handguns have surged since Jared Loughner gunned down six and injured 14 more, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on the weekend.

According to Bloomberg, one-day sales of pistols in Arizona leapt 60% on January 10 - the Monday after the shooting, compared to the previous week.

The owner of two Arizona gun shops told Bloomberg the store was "at double our volume over what we usually do.”

"...Sales of semi-automatic Glock handguns have surged ..."

That's OK, because as a fan of the classics, I use those old-school black powder muzzleloading Glocks that my forefathers used.

Ooh, liberal a-clowns and their scary imagery. Sheesh.

I’m an old 1911 guy but during my CCW class, my instructor was very pro Glock. I’m planning on renting one at the range just to see how it feels. But, I would like to get other’s thoughts on the Glock line and how it shoots.

I purchased a G17 about 10 years ago. I've fed thousands of rounds through it, mostly winchester white box or pmc with any hiccups. No failures to feed, fire, or eject. No stovepipes or soft primer hits, nothing.

Some folks don't care for the grip angle, but it was my first pistol purchase and it has never been an issue for me.

I personally don’t like Glock, I prefer HK.

Shoot a Glock, then a Sig.

You’ll never shoot another Glock.

Same type of thing happened after the Luby’s massacre in Killeen, Tx.

There are Glocks which chamber .45 ACP. IIRC there are two basic types.

Sure, if money’s no object.
I hear that a lot, “get a Sig!”...

Sure, after some rich relative dies and leaves me everything.

Is that a special production model they are keeping secret?

I’m sure people are expecting more state firearms restrictions after this event.

I own a Glock 19. Due to the lack of safety (I don’t consider the trigger a safety) I don’t much care for it. The feel is OK and the high cap mags are OK. I just don’t think it is my top choice in CCW carry. I find it doesn’t feed all 9mm without problem. If you use Silver Bear ammo (made in Russia) it shoots like crap. Stovepipe jams and worse.

I prefer my 1911 Springfields in .45 or my H&K USP Compact in .40. They do the job and have never refused to function regardless of what brand of ammo I use.

A Glock is OK but there are many that are much better.

I’ve decided it must be a conditioning issue.

My g/f loves the Glock - 1st time I picked one up it just seemed too ‘boxy’ for my hand to get around.

1st time I picked up the M&P .45 - like a glove....

Added that plus a 9mm in the last year and I’m happy with both. Which is the clinch - find what you are happy with - performance/fit - and standardize on that.

Somebody better get ahold of genius Republican Peter King who just had a news conference with Mayor Bloomberg to propose new gun control laws. What an effing idiot.

As far as reliability goes, Glocks are second to none. A G21 (.45 ACP) is also nearly half the price of a good 1911. The double-stack magazines carry nearly twice as many rounds to boot.

I carried a 1911 for two years in the military and loved it. However, most of the commercially sold models are not nearly as reliable, especially out of the box. They often require a lot of tinkering (springs, feed ramps, after-market mags etc.) and many manufacturers will recommend a 500 round "break in" period with FMJ ammo before you can expect performance. That recommendation was actually in the owners manual of a Kimber 1911 I had.

Being intimate with both weapons, for serious defense the Glock would be my choice hands down.

I bought a Glock 17 when they first came out and Howard Metzenbaum (remember him?) and Chuckie Schumer were ranting about “plastic guns”. I still have it, but it’s pretty far down my list of favorites. Function has been perfect, but I don’t care for the feel or the balance.

I have an acquaintance that's retired Paterson, NJ PD. He hates Glocks. We were together one Sunday and he explained why.

During an arrest in a high drug-crime part of the city, he and his partner got into a scuffle with a perp. Rather than put one in his torso, he pistol-whipped him and broke the polymer grip off the weapon. "Damn fancy plastic crap" is how he describes any polymer-framed gun. He keeps on about how happy he was with his Police Positive.

He's getting old and grumpy, but I still laugh every time he tells the story (over and over again)!

Psst...Lightly used Sig P225(P6)s are currently available at J & G Sales for $340. That's waaaaay cheaper than a Glock. I'm getting one...or two.
