Evergreen was a Ponzi scheme from day one.
Yet another adverse consequence of governments picking winners & losers using tax-payer money.
This reminds me of the Michigan funding of a fraudulent film business.
Evergreen was given $58 million in taxpayer dollars. The company is is debt $630 million. It’s a green company. That’s all that matters to the elites.

Boy, if they get that money back, they should invest it in something practical like wind energy.
This “green” stuff is nothing but a scam. The pols create subsidy funds. Their friends and relatives create companies to glom up the subsidies. They then suck the money out, file bankruptcy and waltz off into the sunset healthy, wealthy and looking for the next scam.
Amen! I hate this. How did we let this so-called economic development junk take hold? The ding-dongs in our small city are wasting our money right and left trying to lure businesses here, and so is every other city and state in the country. It’s no different from the failed Soviet 5-year plans.

They could have given 116 existing small businesses that have been providing jobs and paying taxes $500,000 each to spend on improving their facilities, with the money to be spent locally and within 2 years. That would be economic stimulus and job creation.

This corporate welfare thing needs to end. I support offering end-users a rebate to go green with USA made products as a national security issue. Get us off of Middle east oil. I do not support welfare incentives to corporations because it always involves graft and corruption.
In my area we gave incentives to corporations to build call centers and they were quickly moved off shore when the money was gone. You can bet the politicians got kickbacks while the money came out of our pocket. Between the boondoggles of farm subsidies, ethanol, Wall Street bailouts, economic development giveaways, sports stadiums built by taxpayers so they can pro pay jocks $50 million we could have deficits lowered significantly. It is all about corruption.
