Newsweek Stubbornly Pretends Loughner a 'Lone Wolf' Right-winger
News Busters ^ | 1/11/11 | Ken Sheppard

Jared Loughner, the suspect arrested in Saturday's shooting death of a federal judge and critical wounding of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona), is no right-winger and certainly not a military veteran.

All the same, Newsweek published an article today suggesting that Loughner's deadly rampage on Saturday was the consequence of conservative politicians dismissing the warnings of a Homeland Security report from 2009 warning about "lone wolf" attacks by right-wingers, particularly those who are armed forces veterans.

In "The Missed Warning Signs," Aaron Mehta, a reporter for the Center for Public Integrity, sought to lay the blame for the shooting at the feet of Rep. John Boehner and other conservatives.

"A 2009 study warned that the rise of right-wing extremism could spur violent attacks. But the report was attacked by Republicans, including now-Speaker John Boehner," the subheadline for the story complained.

Here's how Mehta opened his story (emphasis mine): Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Two years before the Tucson massacre, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report that right-wing extremism was on the rise and could prompt "lone wolves" to launch attacks. But the agency backed away from the report amid intense criticism from Republicans, including future House Speaker John Boehner.

Newsweak! If they were still around, Lenin and Stalin would be Newsweak’s only subscribers. Along with Algore that is.

I quite reading Newsweak decades ago.

And don't miss it. It doesn't even burn well.

Yep, I cancelled a FREE subscription that I had gotten with airline miles. That was about ten years ago. When they were sold for $1, I thought “still too much!”

Here's a screen grab from the Huffington Post. Note that two of the lunatic's favorite reads is THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO and MEIN KAMPF. The Nazis were of course also socialist.

Yah. I was annoyed recently when I was told "only one renewal to the WSJ with airline miles" -- but if they don't want customers, oh well.

Family had a Newsweak subscription in the 60s; it went away during changes in the 70s, and I never personally subscribed -- it wasn't worth it. And even then Times' "We're there / We care" teeheesillyvee campaign was so stupidly ludicrous I couldn't be bothered. Don't remember when USN&WR went down the tubes.

They're all tabloid garbage now -- and that's an insult to the tabloids these days. But let them keep pretending they're important and relevant as long as they can; McDonald's is waiting...

What is amazing is that this wacko was a pothead leftist.

This massive coordinated Big Lie campaign indicates a new JornoList conspiracy.

When I have to sit in a waiting room somewhere and I see someone reading NewsWeak I keep a close eye on them. Never know when they will snap.

They are 25 percent right. They got the lone part right. He’s not a “wolf” he’s more of a pussy shooting unarmed people. He’s not right wing or left wing. He’s a off the charts lunatic that was somewhat molded by communist theory.

1. Acquaintances DID say he was a liberal.
2. His mother was a state employee and most likely in a union and most likely Democrat.
3. His father was a “stay at home dad”.
4. I have heard nothing about a church upbringing. None at all. In fact he had a weird skull shrine in his back yard indicating some cult like religion.
5. Among his favorite books are the Communist Manifesto.

All this adds up to a liberal upbringing with a liberal belief system.
