Leaders have to stand firm on principle. I'm not seeing the qualities of leadership in Haley Barbour. This is someone who increasingly looks like he will fold under the slightest pressure.
And no doubt heterosexually-challeged activists will be out in force if the museum excludes mention of the HOMO part of the civil rights movement.
He’s running for President. As it stands, he just jumped the shark.
This museum idea has been kicked around for decades. Haley didn’t fold to Al. But he is posturing. He’s been a great governor, he would make a decent President, but I do not support him running. He’s not electable.
Time to retire or work behind the scenes Haley.
Great plan. It will drive the libs and race pimps nuts.
Bad signal to send on fiscal responsibility. Can we just “move on” and stop talking about the 1960s? Sure, it gave blacks civil rights, but it also gave us Bill Ayers and other Communist criminals that are now running our country. Can we go back in time, keep civil rights and avoid LBJ’s “Great Society?”
Northwestern University should hang their head in shame over Ayer’s wife.
Let’s not.
THERE ALREADY IS ONE. IT’S IN CINCONNATI AND IT’S CALLED THE FREEDOM MUSEUM. NOBODY GOES THERE EXCEPT SCHOOL CHILDREN WHO ARE BUSED IN. THE CITY AND FEDS SPENT OVER $70 MILLION DOLLARES FOR IT. IT’S ON THE RIVERFRONT BETWEEN THE BENGALS STADIUM AND THE REDS BALLPARK. IT HAS DESTROYED THE MOST PROMINENT DEVELOPMENT SITE IN THE MIDWEST.

So Haley wants to throw some taxpayer money at a project to appease those offended by his statement? That doesn’t sound like Presidential material to me.
This "museum", if built, will just be a shrine to race pimps like Sharpton and Jackson.
Let THEM pay for it.

Are there not a number of them now?
I know the NATIONAL civil rights museum is in my home city of Memphis.
In the early 90’s I was teaching in a school in northeast NJ. In the classroom next to mine there was a class called “The 60’s” being offered. Most days I could hear the soundtrack of some video being played replete with rock music, protest chants, police chiefs being interviewed at the scenes of riots, the sounnds of [the Viet Nam] war, etc. The particular segment about the Tate-Lobianco [sp?] murders with the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter” riff blasting away has stuck with me—imagine time in a high school classroom being devoted to exploring the “intriguing” psyche of Charles Manson! This went on all year. Every year.
Eventually, I would get to the point where I would discuss with my obviously distracted class how the 60’s were viewed by some as a sort of “Great Awakening” while others viewed it as a great turn for the worse in our national story.
As I used to tell my classes back then: Americans packed up their VW minibus with all their gear (some of them forgot the soap), along with all their friends and all their possibilities and went upstate to camp out at some great rock and roll revival. Unfortunately, the VeeDub got stuck in the mud and some of us never made it back.
That’s small time, sir. Why here in Greensboro, we have the INTERnational Civil Rights Museum.

Ignore the fact that it’s a useless use of taxpayer funds and has severely underperformed since opening a couple of years ago.

It provides a fine place for local schools to dump children when they no longer feel like teaching.

The MLK museum here in Atlanta would certainly qualify on some level. So we’re up to three pre-existing.
Come on Haley, enough civil rights crap. We have far too much to correct instead of beating that worn out drum for the race baiters. Isn’t there more to repair and improve on the MS Gulf Coast?? Let’s get on with what’s really important, rebuild our government based on the US Constitution—and read ALL amendments this time...

HAHAHA..Well, at least mine has the URL “civilrightsmuseum.0rg” :P
Now, I am curious to just how many there are.
LLS
I wonder if any of them point out the fact that the reason we needed “civil rights” and “voting rights” in the first place was because Democrats took them away from certain groups of people.
