Just crossing the wires in Lebanon's media outlets.
5:10pm Bassil: We announce our resignation from government and we turn to the prime minister to speed up the formation of a new Cabinet.
If Hariri can't put together a new coalition quick, the government collapses and new elections must be held. Wouldn't be shocked if Hezbollah makes an armed power grab for Lebanese government instiutions. Also some serious concerns about street violence/civil war in Lebanon.
ping
There's a shock.
Preamble to a huge war to come.
I posted over 3 hrs ago that they were threatening to resign
No one seemed to be interested, not even the msm

This is a Big Deal.
That didn’t take long. I read your post a few hours back. I guess they weren’t kidding. Threaten to pull out a few hours back, then go ahead and do it . . . this is potentially a very big deal.
Big concerns
1) street violence/civil war in Lebanon
2) Hezbollah makes a power play to take over the government
Hezbollah bloc is resigning from Lebanon’s Cabinet, official says, bringing government to brink of collapse

Hariri was already in D.C. scheduled to have a meeting with Obama today.
It’s official now. Wonder what Hariri’s official status is at this point. He is actually in a meeting with Obama right now. So is Obama meeting with an ex-prime minister??
11th Lebanese cabinet minister resigns, bringing down the cabinet #Lebanon
This seems to have been a long time coming. Civil war against the Christians followed by another Israeli ear? Inevitable now and for some time past. Just the timing is less in doubt.
Meant to add your name to my #9 post
I think that is exactly what is going to happen.
Time to buy oil futures. And Gold. This is not going to end well.
Time for another Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon, will Bibi have the stones to do what needs to be done?
This pull-out and the next several actions by Hezbollah have been already scripted by Damascus and Tehran and point to an armed take-over.
Obama gets bitch-slapped again by Syria and Iran.

Fasten seat belts...
If he does occupy parts of Southern Lebanon, will O openly withdraw all support (or vestiges thereof) from Israel?
it will not be 4 dollar gas.............it is going to skyrocket.
Same here.....posted the Haaretz story at 5:37 AM EST in front page news. Drew mild interest at the time. Thanks, jhpigott for the update. Bet more are paying attention, now.
I can’t believe it’s not the lead story on FOX. They just started their new news team 12 mins ago, and haven’t even mentioned it.
Faux News is the "Missing White Girl" Channel.
Eh....most news organizations probably won’t cover it until shooting starts and someone dies. The whole “if it bleeds, it leads” mentality.....
I agree, unless and until shooting starts this will only draw mild attention from the US MSM. Too busy trying to blame talk radio for the Gifford shooting.
Hariris meeting with Obama ends
Future News reported on Wednesday that Prime Minister Saad Hariris meeting with US President Barack Obama ended, adding that no statement was issued following their meeting.

Ostensibly, the UN is supposed to issue their report on the assassination of the murder of Hariri Sr. on Saturday. Looks like an advance copy was leaked to Hezbollah.
Wow! Very dangerous situation!
hearing that folks are lining up at the gas stations in Sidon (southern town just a handful of miles north of the Israeli border)
Sidon: Street Seedawi watching carefully the situation in Beirut and the government rushed to petrol stations

Analysts do not expect to see any military conflict between Hizbollah and the Sunni Muslim followers of Prime Minister Saad al Hariri.
However, they did not rule out the return of street protests, skirmishes, bombings and political killings, like that of Rafik al Hariri, Saad’s slain father.
The resignation is a prelude to Hezbollah and its Christian ally taking over the government to prevent the deportation of those complicit in the Harri (Sr) assassination to the UN.
Things not looking good, I expect an
armed take over, perhaps Syrian intervention.
The descent continues.
I hate to say it but if there is breaking news, especially foreign, I flip the TV to CNN. Fox has always been woefully slow on breaking news and CNN still holds a considerable edge in that department. Even MSNBC is quicker with facts on unfolding events.
Don’t worry, be happy... the story will break on Fox in a few days... :)
I'd be very suprised if a U.N. report actually put the blame on Hezbollah. It will probably be more like the sinking of the South Korean ship, where the U.N. condemned the act without naming anyone.
Right after a Natalie Holloway Update.
probably a good idea (sarc) -
Barak: Israel closely monitoring Lebanon situation
The fall of Lebanon’s national unity government following the resignation of the Hezzbollah ministers and their allies has raised concerns in Israel. Defense minister Ehud Barak addressed the recent developments at a closed door session Wednesday and noted that Israel was “closely monitoring” events in Lebanon. (Attila Somfalvi )

Wonder if the analysts know their history. The 1975 civil war started with a worker’s strike. That led to a political killing of a town mayor. The situation spiraled out of control after that and lasted until the 90s.
I'll be surprised if they release any report at all. The UN has a long and ignominious track record of acquiescing to - when not actively aiding and abetting - Islamist thuggery.
No joke. How about even more recent than that. May 08’ - Hezbollah takes over Beirut and battles with a number of Sunni groups in the mountains east of Beirut
They sure better stock up,,,
Fuel storage tanks won’t last long if the IAF pulls the
trigger,,,
Gas was $2.88 here yesterday,,,
No where to go but up...
Naharnet ticker:
* 6:45pm MTV: Hariri left Washington for Paris where he will meet with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
* 6:35pm Speaker Nabih Berri received a telephone call from Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa during which they discussed the latest developments.
* 6:30pm Al-Arabiya: Hariri interrupted his visit to the U.S. and he will return to Beirut Thursday morning and meet President Michel Suleiman upon his arrival.
This is huge.
Please add me to your ping list.
Hezbolla could be liminated in 24 hours had we the will. They are nothing, flies, no more ...
Of that, I have no doubt.
Have you heard much about it on CNN?
According to the article I posted earlier this morning, it was one of President Suleiman’s follower’s in Parliament who would tip the balance and go along with Hezbollah.
More peace keepers ?...
Statement from the White House
The President and the Prime Minister discussed united efforts with France, Saudi Arabia, and other key interntional and regional actors to maintain calm in Lebanon and ensure that the work of the tribunal continues unimpeded by third parties.
I was making a general comment. I’m at work.
Clinton: Lebanon crisis is effort to subvert justice
1.12.11
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Lebanon’s coalition crisis on Wednesday was a transparent attempt to subvert justice but vowed that the work of the UN-backed special tribunal would continue.
“We view what happened today as a transparent effort by those forces inside Lebanon as well as interests outside Lebanon to subvert justice and undermine Lebanon’s stability and progress,” Clinton told a news conference in Doha, Qatar, where she is attending a meeting of regional leaders.
