5:10pm Bassil: We announce our resignation from government and we turn to the prime minister to speed up the formation of a new Cabinet.
If Hariri can't put together a new coalition quick, the government collapses and new elections must be held. Wouldn't be shocked if Hezbollah makes an armed power grab for Lebanese government instiutions. Also some serious concerns about street violence/civil war in Lebanon.

It’s official now. Wonder what Hariri’s official status is at this point. He is actually in a meeting with Obama right now. So is Obama meeting with an ex-prime minister??

Ostensibly, the UN is supposed to issue their report on the assassination of the murder of Hariri Sr. on Saturday. Looks like an advance copy was leaked to Hezbollah.

However, they did not rule out the return of street protests, skirmishes, bombings and political killings, like that of Rafik al Hariri, Saad’s slain father.
The resignation is a prelude to Hezbollah and its Christian ally taking over the government to prevent the deportation of those complicit in the Harri (Sr) assassination to the UN.
Things not looking good, I expect an
armed take over, perhaps Syrian intervention.

I hate to say it but if there is breaking news, especially foreign, I flip the TV to CNN. Fox has always been woefully slow on breaking news and CNN still holds a considerable edge in that department. Even MSNBC is quicker with facts on unfolding events.

I'd be very suprised if a U.N. report actually put the blame on Hezbollah. It will probably be more like the sinking of the South Korean ship, where the U.N. condemned the act without naming anyone.

Wonder if the analysts know their history. The 1975 civil war started with a worker’s strike. That led to a political killing of a town mayor. The situation spiraled out of control after that and lasted until the 90s.
I'll be surprised if they release any report at all. The UN has a long and ignominious track record of acquiescing to - when not actively aiding and abetting - Islamist thuggery.
No joke. How about even more recent than that. May 08’ - Hezbollah takes over Beirut and battles with a number of Sunni groups in the mountains east of Beirut

According to the article I posted earlier this morning, it was one of President Suleiman’s follower’s in Parliament who would tip the balance and go along with Hezbollah.

“We view what happened today as a transparent effort by those forces inside Lebanon as well as interests outside Lebanon to subvert justice and undermine Lebanon’s stability and progress,” Clinton told a news conference in Doha, Qatar, where she is attending a meeting of regional leaders.
