Skip to comments.A message for Glock (Editorial suggesting glock should stop selling to civilians)
Posted on 01/12/2011 2:35:09 PM PST by lowbridge
Why Loughner -- who'd been rejected by the military for his past drug use and arrested on drug charges -- was free to buy a 30-round magazine is a mystery.
Almost as much a mystery, frankly, as why Glock even markets them: They have no discernible civilian efficacy -- and damned little military utility.
Yet sales of the magazines reportedly are way up around the country in the wake of the Tucson massacre.
Here's an opportunity for the NYPD -- and every big-city police department in the nation -- to help turn this around by sending Glock a simple message: Halt all sales of the magazines to civilians -- or we'll stop using your weapon for our own officers.

“If Guns were Treated Like Cars”
Hey Compost: I have two such mags from the days when they were legal in Kommiefohnia, and so far they haven’t done any harm to anyone or anything.
So much stupidity, so little time. (not you lowbridge, the author of the editorial)
I had a bunch before the boating accident.
Is it any wonder there’s been a massive “run” on Glock pistols in recent days?
Yeah and as an astute businessman, Mr. (Anton?) Glock will certainly shut off that part of his market. Besides, the Glock 19 has a 15 round mag anyway. Not like somebody could do some harm with that, right?
Banned here in CA 10 mag is max allowed.
yeah and Hollywood should stop making violent films.
Just hope my Beretta mags don't get jealous...
shall not be infringed... it covers his right to own...
in a free society, unfortunately this is the cost... until our criminal justice system starts offing these shooters instead of coddling them and making them celebrity killers... it will continue.
Were they made by Glock or an after-market? I’ve got a couple hi-capacity mags for My Ruger KP97, they weren’t made by Ruger.
“They have no discernible civilian efficacy”
Except keeping the feds from trampling our freedom.
I hought the Post was a conservative paper that would research something before they put their foot in their mouth.
I don’t have a 30 round mag, but I defend it on the grounds that it is a good home defense item.
3:00AM, your eyes are out of focus because you are aroused from a deep sleep...
How many times will you miss?
Cops wide awake in the middle of their shift miss 85% of the time.
If you hit only 15%, that is only 4.5 hits. If two guys break in.....
Maybe 60 rounds would be better.
A 30 round mag is a good thing to have under the bed.
Um...so neither a civilian shooter or a military officer would prefer to fire more bullets between reloads? On what facts does he base that conclusion?
I doubt I'll ever have to fire any of my weapons in a combat situation, but if I could get them belt fed I'd do it. Better to finish a fight with lots of ammo unfired than get caught short or get popped during a reload.
Genuine Glock, IIRC for a G30? that is not marketed in the US.
here in NY large cap mags are grandfathered in...if they were made before the clinton mag ban they are legal to own and use....so you could conceivably get the new magazines without dates of manufacture on them(the law lapsed after 10 years)....and most cops would not know the difference...but if you got arrested for something else...or protected your life with a gun with a plus 10 round magazine made after the clinton ban, they have ways of determining when it was made and will charge you with a felony....
so much for the constitution
Why don't they ban cars?
Its simple really, the left don't care if some leftist gets killed if he is a poor or unfortunated driver. THe left simply doesn't want a person to be able to blow away a leftist libtard who decides he wants whats yours inside your house, or if the wants to kill you or your family for some reason.Thats about the sum of it.EFF THEM, LOL.
I get the jest of your message. But if you had actual Glock 30 round mags, how much did they cost? A few spares for my model 23 cost me something like $69 - and at a gun show no less.
Out of curiosity, when did you get them because that price is insanely high.
I wonder about the utility of a 30 round mag as an owner of a Glock 23 with a CCW permit. It’s bulky enough without the extra long mag. But I recognize that others might disagree and who am I to argue.
With practice & extra mags Jared Loughner could have gotten off the same number of shots. Banning hi-cap mags isn’t going to make anybody a whole lot safer.
I am still waiting word on where he got the money for the gun.
don’t recall ...CDNN maybe?
HERE They aren't all THAT expensive.
Some people don't like to spend time reloading at the range, I guess.
I like flush-fitting magazines, and I don't like Glocks, but it's a free country! At least it is for now.
At a gun show here in San Antonio, probably 5 years or so ago. For some reason, the 13 rounders for the 23 always seem to be high - I don’t know why unless it is low sales volume.
and a gun too!
Good question. The guy supposedly was turned down for 65 minimum wage jobs.
ounds just like the leftwing dumbocraps. I find a lot of similiarities with the two parties.
I have a hundred round magazine for my military style assault rifle and I can think of a use for it. I just pray that it never becomes necessary.
It’s all about gun control and the dems will exploit this tragedy for “some reasonable gun controls”....

You get sergeantdave’s “Succinct Award” of the day.
The money to buy the gun and mags came from the government.
Conservatives work and actually PAY taxes so it’s still our fault.
What is "mentuoned"?
What kind of people?
bith accidental and intentional shotings
Bith shotings are bad, mmm'kay?
What do you suppose should be the punishment for public illiteracy?
"Zombie" control ...
Actually reading your post again — most firearms manufacturers do not manufacture their own magazines, but they do sell magazines in their own packaging, and often with their own markings.
“darn you, you conservatives paid for that gun!” tomorrow’s CNN headline
If guns kill people, then pencils make spelling errors.
The 33 round magazine is for the G18, a select fire “machine pistol” that is only sold in Europe to military and leos. I did see one at Knob Creek 10 years ago tho. After the second round you are trying to keep it from shooting holes in clouds. They are an NFA firearm, highly regulated, requiring BATFE papers to own. As for the mags, I guess there is a cool factor, although how cool it is having at least 10 inches of mag hanging out your G17 or G19 escapes me, but to each his or her own. I suppose for range time they cut down on reloads.
I imagine with a scrambled egg mindset like his, Loughner had no moral reservations about taking $600 from his mother’s purse.
Here’s a message for the NY Slimes
A spike in Glock sales
‘Before they tighten up the state laws, I’m buying more guns’
I suspect Gaston Glock’s reply will be “Eat me!”
Glock does market the G30 in the US. The magazine capacity is 10 rds insomuch as the G30 is a sub compact. The 13rd mags for a G21 work in a G30 altho they do extrude somewhat from magazine well.
