RI Gov. Chafee: Stop paying for vitriolic commentary
The Providence Journal ^ | January 13, 2011 | Felice Freyer

Posted on 01/14/2011 7:02:10 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

When talk radio hosts use harshly divisive language, "The advertisers should shut them down," Governor Lincoln Chafee said this morning.

Chafee said the solution to the vitriolic rhetoric -- which some have linked to the shooting of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords over the weekend -- is for people to stop paying for it, including not buying books from people who use such language.

Chafee made his comments in response to reporters' questions after a meeting on health care. He noted that he had been a target of violence-tinged criticism himself. In 2006, conservative commentator Ann Coulter wrote a column, "They shot the wrong Lincoln," and calling then-Senator Chafee a "half-wit."

Chafee made national news earlier this week when he announced that he would not go on talk radio and would ban state employees from doing so.

The ban came because talk radio is essentially "ratings-driven, for-profit programming" that was not appropriate use of state employees' time, Chafee said....

I think you could effectively say, this big ship(America) has finally turned. We’ve been heading left for a long, long time. Drip, drip, drip, drip. Finally the dems have taken it to far to fast and people are shocked and fearful. I also think it helped that our economy is in such bad shape. To many sheeple think as long as there personal trough is full, they don’t care what the politicians do.

How about a list of products that come from Rhode Island?

Then those of us who wish to do so can boycott such products.

When doing such a boycott, make sure that the company that makes that product knows why you are refusing to do business with them.

Chaffee needs to learn something:

Boycotts work both ways.

Vitriol
Vitriolic

The fact that Chafee, who is a truly idiotic preppy numbprivates, is using "vitriol," The Word of the Month, demonstrates the unity of purpose of the Left.

It also shows that the Left can 'stay on message' far better than the Right. It also shows that dominance of the MSM by the Left can also mentally unbalance RINOs.

BTW. My proposal that the Constitution be immediately amended to require Delaware and Rhode Island to share 1 Senator, appointed by me and the Flag Officers of my Yacht Club has gone absolutely nowhere. It would have prevented not only the Chaffee Problem, but the Biden Problem, which is a bi-partisan problem. I have received no help from Freepers, either!

The real reason Chaffee left the Farrier's trade is that when he was working on a horses's back legs, no one could find him. He just sort of blended in. Pardon the vitriol.

The Providence Journal is also for-profit isn’t it? Are the local newscasts also for-profit?

Leftist skunks have plenty of time on their hands for mischief. They have definitely hurt Glenn Beck as far as advertisers and could do so nationwide to more talk hosts

No advertisers and your show is off the air

I have no problem with state employees not spending time on talk radio or tv during working hours.

If appointments are scheduled and approved as public service announcements that is a different story.

State run media -- ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, (NPR) are all losing viewers (which translates into less they can charge advertisers) while FOX is surging. The left will go down in flames holding hands and singing socialist songs.

It was deemed "mean spirited."

When talk radio hosts use harshly divisive language, "The advertisers should shut them down," Governor Lincoln Chafee said this morning.

...but only those on the right, of course.

"They have definitely hurt Glenn Beck"

Personally, I think Glenn Beck has hurt himself...at least it is that way in our household.

As much as we agree with what he speaks about, his presentation and demeanor rub many conservatives the wrong way. He is far too condescending, smug and self-promoting, pretentiuos and our family and many families we know simply refuse to watch his show any longer. We'll just read about the issues later.
