Reince Priebus Leads First RNC Ballot [LIVE thread]
Roll Call ^ | 01/14/2011 | Kyle Trygstad

Posted on 01/14/2011 11:08:07 AM PST by iowamark

Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus led after the first ballot in the race for chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Needing 85 votes among the 168 members to win, Priebus took 45 votes in the first round. Trailing Priebus after one round is Chairman Michael Steele with 44 votes, former RNC official Maria Cino with 32 votes, Michigan Committeeman Saul Anuzis with 24 votes, and former Missouri GOP Chairwoman Ann Wagner with 23 votes.

Several more ballots are expected before someone reaches the 85-vote threshold. Steele won the 2009 race after six rounds, defeating a five-candidate field that included Anuzis and then-Chairman Mike Duncan.

All eyes are now on Steele to see if his support begins to dwindle. In 2009, Duncan dropped out after three rounds after watching his vote total dwindle from 52 to 44. He had led after the first round and was tied with Steele after the second round.

The sense here is that if Steele did not finish in first place after the first ballot, he would have a difficult chance of winning. Still, much of the talk among members before this vote centered on whether Steele would leave the race when it became apparent he could not win...

If he is a Haley Barbour lackey, he should not lead the RNC. I do not want Barbour as President, he was good as RNC chair, but he looks like a potential stroke or H.A. I do not mind his twisted mouth garbled accent, but most others will.

That’s ancient history——before the Tea Party surfaced. Remember Nov.

Early life

Anuzis was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Lithuanian immigrants, Ceslovas and Elena Anuzis. He attended Bishop Borgess High School and later studied economics at the University of Michigan–Dearborn campus. His senior year he was elected president of the Student Government and also was one of the founders and first chairman of the College Republican club on campus.

His parents and paternal grandparents, Ignas and Elena Anuzis, received the Righteous Among the Nations award from Israel’s national Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem, for helping three young girls escape from a Jewish ghetto and make their way from Lithuania to Estonia during World War II. One of those girls, now grown, nominated them for the award.
[edit]Personal life

Anuzis is married to Lina (née Alksninis) and they have four sons, Matas, Tadas, Vytis, and Marius.

Anuzis is a former member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

He was also a gubernatorial appointee to the Michigan Jobs Commission and the Michigan Export Development Authority. He is a scout master of local Boy Scout Troop 100 (comprising Lithuanian scouts), and is actively involved in several Lithuanian-American organizations and serves on several non-profit boards. He currently serves as honorary consul to Michigan for the Republic of Lithuania. Anuzis and his family reside in Eaton County.

We don’t need the RNC, hell, we don’t even need Republicans.

We simply need conservative candidates.

I'd like to see an RNC Chairman who is a successful person with blue collar roots (elitists need not apply). I don't know his family background, but Reince Priebus grew up in a blue collar town, went to a blue collar high school and a blue collar college.

From Wikipedia:

Priebus was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin and [2] graduated from George Nelson Tremper High School in 1990.[3] He obtained a bachelor's degree in Political Science and English in 1994 from University of Wisconsin–Whitewater (where he was student body president), worked in the Wisconsin Legislature for a year, and then went to law school, receiving a law degree from University of Miami School of Law in 1998.[4] He then joined the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in Milwaukee.[2]

In 2004, in his first bid for public office, Priebus unsuccessfully challenged incumbent Robert Wirch for a seat in the Wisconsin Senate,[5][6] where Priebus reportedly spent $384,486 to Wirch's $182,595.[7]

Priebus was elected state GOP party chair in 2007,[8][9] the youngest person ever elected to that position.[10] In 2009, he became general counsel of the RNC.[10]

CSPAN caller -- doesn't want the "Right Wing Extremists" to win (via Priebus). She prefers the moderates. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Leftist plants trying to necessitate leftist approval of only RINO candidates.EFF THEM!

The left hears the hinterland rumble, and the roll is on.If Reince wins this , we are over a significant hurdle. It means uncontroverted funding for tea party based candidates, and a merging of public momentum with tea party based PACs.

Your figures are incorrect.

Priebus and Wagner were my first two choices. Looking good.

It seems to me that after a couple of ballots, the last-place candidate should be disqualified on each ballot.
