New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the shooting of an Arizona congresswoman should spark a renewed gun control debate, calling accused shooter Jared Lee Loughner “a disgrace to democracy” as he advocated changes in federal gun policy.
“This case is fundamentally about a mentally ill drug abuser who had access to guns and shouldn’t have,” Bloomberg said at a news conference Tuesday with members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
The political fallout from the attack on Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has overwhelmingly focused on the heated state of political discourse, with debates on gun policy largely absent. But Bloomberg, a longtime supporter of gun control, said the conversation — specifically, stronger background checks — should be revisited.
Mayors and law enforcement officials joining Bloomberg said gaps in the system of federal background checks allowed Loughner to purchase guns and that thousands more could slip through the cracks.
“Based on what we know so far, the system that is supposed to protect us from dangerous and deranged people has failed once again,” Bloomberg said.
Bloomberg was also joined by Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.), who plans to introduce legislation that would make it illegal to carry a weapon within 1,000 feet of high-level government officials.
1. Always treat every Gun as if it was loaded.
2. Always point a Gun in a safe direction.
3. Never point a Gun at anything that you do not wish to shoot.
4. . . . .
Look at it this way - at any time, day or night, Bloomberg could go (even more) insane, grab a gun from one of his bodyguards, and go on a murderous rampage.
The only way to protect the public from that horrible eventuality is to proactively put Bloomberg into an institution where he will not be a danger to himself or to anybody else's life or liberty. After all, it's only common sense to do that, for the public's safety...

What we really need is a law that prohibits the shooting of other people without cause.
Only then will we have peace in our society.

Let’s not and say we did.
That's simple! If that law would have been in place, the nut-job would NEVER have come within 1000' of the representative, and would have probably missed her when he opened fire on the crowd from over 1000' away!
It will work just as well as those "No Concealed Carry Weapons Allowed" signs in banks. After all, no back robber would ever take a gun into a bank that has one of those signs posted!

The whole thing is stupid. Nobody wants to see people murdered! Let’s just make murder illegal, and solve the problem once and for all!
Oh, wait...
“Bloomberg: Let’s talk gun control”
X@#!NO! Conversation over.
Let’s talk “Bloomberg control”. Here is a man with several deep-rooted psychological problems, which he uses his elected political office to inflict on other people.
Case in point: He consumes so much salt in his food that guests to the governor’s mansion find it inedible. His solution? To restrict the salt intake of other people. Neurotic-tyrannical.
Another case: He is deeply afraid of assassination, surrounding himself with a phalanx of heavily armed guards. His initiative? To prevent anyone other than them from having guns. Again, neurotic-tyrannical.
Yet another: He used to smoke cigarettes, and found it unpleasant to quit. So, of course, they should be heavily taxed, if not outright banned. Another neurotic-tyrannical response.
New Yorkers had better hope to heaven that he has a happy sex life, or what will he do? Ban sex or try to tax it? Anything to project his own sorry self into the lives of others.
Perhaps the best solution would be to parachute Mayor Bloomberg on to an isolated and unoccupied island in the Pacific. Plenty of water and unsalted food. Then he can oppress the rocks and palm trees as much as he wants, and it won’t hurt others.
Jung has a synchronisic ( acausal)approach to explaining events. Few understad it.
But I agree with what you say in part. Its also like a cull
by predators of the weak from the herd. They act improperly as a class to the point where they are dehumanized, and when they appear on the fringe of the herd, they are singled out for attack by the predators, who as humans happen to be insane ( killing for no specific cause except rage).
However, the leftist vitriol censors would say it wrong to dehumanize the class of politucians and make them fringe targets for the insane, when in fact the process is organic and uncontrollable, beyond judgement in fact, because it is acausal, socially evolutionary, and merely a way of understanding what is happening.Only totalitarian social methods could put an end to what is arguably a natural process. That the herd will never accept.
So now we see elitists resigning, refusing to offer for further electoral terms, and party hacks resigning out of fear. They are right to do so, and merge with the herd so as to be unrecognizeable, at least according to this Jungian understanding.
The herd will hardly divide itself and go to war over the matter, it will just keep pushing the politicians and the insane out to the fringes, where they can feed on one another according to this Jungian approach.Perhaps eventually they will simply do each other in.And the truth is that the insanity is not only in the predator. The politicians have their own version of insanity, and one need not look too far into the conduct of various politicians to see a version of the same insanity that effects the predators themselves. They seem to have that in common and have a similarity of predatory function.
Let’s start by disarming Bloomberg’s bodyguards.
Laws of convenience. They’re described in Atlas Shrugged, though not referred to as such. A law against carrying a firearm within 1000 ft of a legislator is a law of convenience; the authorities will use it as and when they find it convenient.
Let me get this straight: A liberal Arizona sheriff who failed miserably in dong his job of taking action, as authorized by law, to move to have the perp committed, speaks out against law abiding Americans who had nothing to do with this tragedy, is aligned with a liberal NYC mayor who failed to even manage the effective removal of snow from city streets, telling the rest of us that our Constitutional rights should be abridged so that they don’t look bad in the court of public opinion. Welcome to Obamaland - Rod Serling will be with you in a moment - just as soon as he helps the illegal aliens in line in front of you.
How about we talk stringing you up by your corrupt neck from the highest tree for treason against the Constitution of the United States of America?
Next thing you know, those two wazoos (King & Bloomie) will be wanting to restrict cutlery sales because people are too fat.
Regarding Obama, guns, and all standard-capacity magazines:
Hes coming to take them away, Ha-ha!
Hes coming to take them away!
THAT is what Obama meant by the wildly-cheered code words in his Tucson speech: We should be willing to challenge old assumptions in order to lessen the prospects of violence in the future. aka Gun BANS!
