Subject: Politische Kundgebung getarnt als eine Gedenkfeier (Political rally masquerading as a memorial service)
It's been two years since I last wrote. Then it was about the Invesco Field Rally in Denver. Now it's about that rally in Tucson. If you don't mind a few harsh words from someone seasoned in such things, no matter that you tried hard, the tragic incident in Tucson was no Reichstag Fire, and while you made as much of it as you could, you need to hone your shtick a bit better in future. I keep writing to you out of admiration for your political inclinations and skills, of course.
I want only for you to succeed, and I hope you take my words to heart.
Here is what was good and what was not so good about this -- in short form because I know how busy you are with golf and vacations and wrecking the American economy for decades to come.
1. You did need a distraction
Every leader has to know how to distract public attention from shortcomings, and on this you succeeded nicely. Your party got (excuse the expression) slaughtered at the polls in November; you lost the House, and your control of the Senate is shaky. Oil is reaching $100 a barrel, jobless claims are jumping, consumer confidence is down, foreclosures are increasing, wholesale food prices are soaring, the USA's AAA credit rating is in jeopardy, the public is catching on that the taxpayers are unlikely to recoup on the GM bailout, and one half of the states are suing to have ObamaCare, your signature legislation, declared unconstitutional.
And I'm not even getting into the international mess like the fall of the Lebanese government at the hands of the Iranian...

Sheriff Dumkoff is a gift that kept on giving all week long last week. I kept wondering why the drive bys kept putting that goon in front of a camera to spew his ignorance and diminish their cause. The thought occurs that Dumkoff's inability to discriminate crucial differences is a key reason that Loughner's presumed insanity was not addressed by the sheriff ahead of his murder spree. Or maybe, Dumkoff was the facilitator by his inaction.
If Bozo the Clown went around yelling, “Conservatives and Tea Partiers are fomenting a climate of hatred and vitriol in America,” the LSM would be falling all over themselves to get him on the tube.
It’s not who you are, it’s what you believe and what you say.
Rush had it exactly right, as usual. Dubnik is another Nifong. Another dem hack who shouldn’t even have been elected to dogcatcher.
"The left-wing political pep rally that followed the funeral, attended by approximately 20,000 people, included televised images of well known liberal icons such as former President Bill Clinton, former Vice Presidents Walter Mondale and Al Gore, and Senators Hillary Clinton and Teddy Kennedy sneering from their seats and engaging in such antics as waving their fists in the air as a succession of speakers mounted the stage to regurgitate predictable left-wing slogans."
It has been generally acknowledged that the Wellstone funeral, in which Vice President Richard V. Cheney was dis-invited to attend and in which Senator Trent Lott was booed, was a disaster for the Democrats in the 2002 mid-term elections. The negative reverberations were felt during the 2004 presidential campaign of Democratic Senator John Kerry.

But “We’re gonna organize, we’re gonna organize, we’re gonna organize....” was the main theme of the Tucson “pep rally.” Otherwise, why the advance men with the “Together We Thrive” T-shirts?
The Democrats are congenitally unable to do anything without including politics; funerals and memorials are no exception.
You can fool all of the people some of he time. That’s the the only tool they have left on their belt. Why fret over jobs or ethics when they have T-shirts and “The Narrative’?
I have a feeling Leni will be writing a lot in the next 2 years.
The Triumph of the Shill?
HEH!. I wonder why I cannot find this thru the FR search engine, Are you posting this under blogs? It shouldn’t be, This portion of AT is an online magazine.
Actually, I see it is posted under news. Beats me why it turns up on google but not on the FR search engine

When I post AT stuff, I put anything from the homepage leftside column under “News” and excerpt a portion. Anything in the rightside column-—”AT Blog”-—I put under “Bloggers” and post the entire article.
I’ve had several discussions with other FReepers about how to post AT’s material an decided that the way I’m currently doing it is the least annoying to the “posting police” who love to pick about such things.
That’s fine. I do think the search function is simply not working any longer for me.
