With that much meth in it, the vacuum cleaner could run itself!

...2 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and 2.2 pounds of cocaine shrink wrapped inside the box.

All I ever get for Christmas is fruit cake.

“Who gives their mother a refurbished vacuum cleaner for Christmas!?”

Probably kids that don’t have enough money to buy a new one.

Maybe the vacuum wasn't the gift!

Several years ago, my boss at the time had to fire the bookkeeper who'd developed a crack and cocaine problem; he passed the company car onto his son.

I made the kid paranoid by mentioning that I hoped he didn't get stopped and have 'traces' found in the car.....he ended up taking the car someplace for a drug-sniffing analysis to play it safe (nothing found).

Ok, I'm going to have to assume the mother asked for a vacuum for Christmas. If not, the money used to by even a used vacuum could have easily bought a more thoughtful gift.

At least in a vacuum one doesn’t have to worry about the drugs oxidizing.

Come on peoples, times are tough. You haven't ever received a "useful" Christmas gift? Man, I just started getting impractical gifts. :-)

If I needed a vacuum cleaner, that would be a thoughtful gift.

And I was amazed that someone hadn't said it already...usually when I think of an "obvious" retort, it's already been used 7 times.

Oh well, somebody had to say it, might as well be me...LOL

I don't think we are in a position to judge. Might have been a boneheaded present, could have been exactly right. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. BTW, my Canon Rebel is reconditioned and is just as good a new out of the box. I think the previous owner used it as a paperweight. I always reconditioned goods, where available.

“Ok, I’m going to have to assume the mother asked for a vacuum for Christmas.”

Or the kids knew that their mom’s vacuum was broken and needed a new one. One they could afford.

Sometimes the ‘thoughtfulness’ is in the giving.. Not the gift.

Ah, I just got my first good laugh of the day. Hilarious. Even a new vacuum would be a lousy gift, but a used one? I'm sure they don't have money and wanted to give her something and we should all be kind etc. etc. BUT I'm still laughing over it.

Those who cannot afford a brand new one, those who know mom would be proud of their thrift, those who could find the brand she wanted only in a "refurbished" state.

One does wonder, however, exactly how "refurbished" it was if no one bothered to look in the vacuum cleaner bag.

I've asked for and received a vacuum as a gift before. I always have my family get me “useful” gifts. Otherwise they spend their money on “crap” I'll never use or wear. I can buy the “thoughtful” gifts myself and get exactly what I want.

It’s a danged shame it wasn’t cash. If I found $280,000 in cash in a vacuum cleaner, I don’t think I’d be telling the world about it.

On the other hand, I would be concerned that it could be counterfeit because that could send one up the river for a long time.

The drugs - they’d have to be turned in and the authorities alerted. Probably no reward, and they would probably keep the vacuum cleaner as evidence.

All I got for my 1970 high school graduation was a dictionary. It was the very pricey Oxford English Dictionary in multiple volumes but I could’ve bought a car for that kind of money.

What branbd is this vacuum?

Dyson & some of those types are upwards of $400 new.

I have used a Dyson at a friend’s house-—but I cannot ever imagine using a $400 vacuum cleaner. Best one I ever owned was a Singer—I still have it, it still works & I got it in 1966— & when it was new, it was rated right behind the Kirby.

A few months ago, the wife and I were returning a bed we had borrowed for a niece’s visit. We noticed a kirby and accessories sticking out of the curbside wheelie dumpster next door, so wife went and knocked on the door. Upshot is, we ended up with a free gen 5 kirby and accessories because the lady just didn’t like it.

It goes nicely with the rainbow I picked up for 15 bucks at a garage sale- and the orek shampooer I got for 10 bucks at another one :)

Did you “borrow” them on a regular basis, or did she just say:”Here, honey, they fit you better, please keep them.”?

“Who gives their mother a refurbished vacuum cleaner...”

Certain companies like Overstock.com offers refurbished vacuum cleaners for less than half price. If you want a really good one like a Dyson, would you rather pay close to $450 dollars plus or a refurbished one with a warranty? Okay, at some point, someone else owned the vacuum and returned it but it is better in most cases than buying one at a yard sale or thrift shop. Money is tight.... getting a brand that you like/want at less money is the way to go. IMHO (p.s. I have one in my closet and it works like a gem... no drugs in it)

Same person who might give them a washing machine so they don't have to go to the laundromat to wash the clothes. For working folks, utility saving gifts are sometimes well appreciated.
