Beautiful people don't just get all the breaks, scientists say they're likely smarter than most people, too.
A study in England conducted by researchers at the London School of Economics found that attractive men and women generally have higher IQs.
"Physical attractiveness is significantly positively associated with general intelligence," said LSE lead researcher Satoshi Kanazawa, in the latest issue of the journal, Intelligence.
The study indicated attractive men have IQs that are 13.6 points above the average, while beautiful women are 11.4 points higher than average.

Beauty is highly subjective and the article doesn’t really explain the study, so - yes - junk science.
But of course, darlink!
On the other hand, my wife certainly fits that profile.
Sorry.... not buying it. I have seen the kids in our Gifted and Talented schools. I think they are all beautiful but they are not “Hollywood’s” version of beautiful. Intelligence and societal accepted concepts of beauty are two different things IMHO.

Don’t confuse intelligence with common sense.
Some of the smartest people I know are dumb as a post when it comes to day to day life (especially life on the streets)
I was a loser dope smoker when I was young- striaightened out my act and went to college for 3 degrees- physics, computer science, and accounting.
So I know everything about everything, now. :)
And what I know most is how stupid smart liberals are. The saying “liberalism is child-like sentiment applied to adult problems” is the most accurate statement. And it is a mental desease in that they are hard to cure of that.
This study sounds like someone just trying to turn the “dumb blonde” assertion on its head. I would think that there would be absolutely no correlation between innate intelligence and physical appearance. How does someone’s face effect their brain? To make this study valuable, the assertions would have to remain true for all humans. Yet physical beauty is discerned in different ways in different cultures. What most Westerners consider beautiful may not be what is considered attractive in Africa, for example. Also, what would be the connection? It is like saying someone with blue eyes is more intelligent than someone with brown eyes. Remember that famous test? Perhaps people who are attractive have more self esteem and answered the questions more confidently. Silly test and one for the eugenics books.
My personal experience proves the findings to be accurate.

The picture they show (can't post here) bears that out. Those two look fairly average to me.
Doctors and lawyers are some of the dumbest people I have known when it comes to common sense, everyday stuff.
They spend all their formative years in school becoming doctors and lawyers to the exclusion of everything else, unless they had a rock solid parental upbringing where they could learn from their parents about everyday stuff they are usually clueless about.............
That’s not really fair. What did he look like as a young man, before being devastated by disease? I don’t know,,, just askin’.

There is an Annual Gathering in Portland this year the first week of July. You can hide in a car and observe the members entering. There IS a Beauty and Brains SIG. No information on the size of it, though.

This study shows an increase in IQ for good-looking (whatever that means) people that is almost exactly identical to the decrease in IQ found among blacks as compared to whites.
It is not discussing a multitude of individual people, it is discussing two mythical average people. As with the black/white difference it tells us absolutely nothing about any individual in either group.
Since good-looking people can be assumed to generally have good genetics, it is not unreasonable.
This reminds me of my very first day at high school. An absolutely gorgeous girl, a blue-eyed blonde, was walking toward me in the crowd and I quite literally walked into a phone pole.
Found out later she was “special ed,” and on the low end of the scale for that group.

Um, you can quibble about whether she was a *leading* voice for eugenics, but she certainly was a voice for eugenics (negative eugenics, improvement of the gene pool through systematic removal of tainted genotypes. From Wikipedia:
“Keep the doors of immigration closed to the entrance of certain aliens whose condition is known to be detrimental to the stamina of the race, such as feebleminded, idiots, morons, insane, syphilitic, epileptic, criminal, professional prostitutes, and others in this class barred by the immigration laws of 1924.”

“Apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.”
When will they have a test on wisdom?
OK - intelligence will open doors and opportunities that can increase a persons self esteem. I have met people that presented themselves as if they were very attractive, and frankly that was my impression. If I had met them on different terms, that same person would have not seemed so attractive, because the impressions was not about physical attributes, but rather attitude.
Looks can be put in place with a scalpel, brains can’t.
