Beautiful people don't just get all the breaks, scientists say they're likely smarter than most people, too.
A study in England conducted by researchers at the London School of Economics found that attractive men and women generally have higher IQs.
"Physical attractiveness is significantly positively associated with general intelligence," said LSE lead researcher Satoshi Kanazawa, in the latest issue of the journal, Intelligence.
The study indicated attractive men have IQs that are 13.6 points above the average, while beautiful women are 11.4 points higher than average.

OK - intelligence will open doors and opportunities that can increase a persons self esteem. I have met people that presented themselves as if they were very attractive, and frankly that was my impression. If I had met them on different terms, that same person would have not seemed so attractive, because the impressions was not about physical attributes, but rather attitude.

I am guessing you are applying this to Sarah as an argument for probability of intelligence based on appearance alone. While that argument may have statistical merit it’s not really going to tell you anything about a particular individual. For my own part I think Sarah is quite intelligent, if income and general success be any measure. The beauty argument, OTOH, is a two-edged sword. One the one hand, it has intuitive appeal. Good genetics in general should be a predictor of good genetics in specific attributes. And beauty is not altogether subjective. I would like any posters here to step forward and honestly say Susan Boyle is in the same class as Sara Palin. No, there are issues of symmetry, proportionality, quality, etc., that do predict a general affirmation of beauty quite apart from subjective templates.
Now for the other hand. These kinds of studies, whether they are valid or not, should not be underestimated. There really are those who would use such information as propaganda weapons for negative eugenics, i.e., abortion and euthanasia. For all the alleged broadmindedness of the left, the reality is they are driven by the same dark utopias as some of the most malignant and death-producing personalities in human history. They want their “perfect world,” and they will gladly create any nightmare necessary to produce it, including turning a lack of beauty (as they see it) into an excuse for murder.
This is probably just measuring the drag low IQ puts on physical appearance: the less intelligent are less likely to look after their health, and therefore more likely to be obese or merely overweight and less likely to work out. Also, due to the economic side-effect of not being able to attain either an education sufficient to gain a high-wage job nor the smarts to be an enterpreneur, can’t afford as nice of clothing, which also is a drag on appearance.
Sampling those who are physically attractive excludes the obese, the overweight, the badly-dressed (and thus the poor) and produces a bias toward higher IQ.
Of course, if the rating of physical attractiveness was done with all of the subjects dressed alike, then the badly-dressed part of my critique doesn’t apply.
Well...smart how? And really, when you’re female, above average in the looks, really above average in sense and problem solving it gets you stupid female crap from women and not much from the guys who are really worth taking home.
