Bush 41 to endorse Roger Williams
Austin American-Statesman ^ | 17 January 2011 | Jason Embry

Posted on 01/17/2011 10:22:31 AM PST by Racehorse

Former President George H.W. Bush will endorse Republican Roger Williams this afternoon for the U.S. Senate seat that Kay Bailey Hutchison now holds.

The race to succeed Hutchison, who is not seeking re-election, has drawn interest from a number of Republicans, including railroad commissioners Elizabeth Ames Jones and Michael Williams. Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is also considering a run.

Roger Williams is a Weatherford car dealer and former Texas secretary of state who was a major Republican donor before he was a candidate.

The Bush endorsement could give his campaign a nice boost, particularly since the field is crowded and Williams doesn’t have the statewide name recognition of someone like Dewhurst, who has held statewide office since 1999. A high-profile endorsement can be particularly helpful early in a campaign as a candidate tries to build momentum and attract donors.

>>>I heard him speak at a local Republican do in 2010, and was profoundly unimpressed.<<<

Me too, I really like him. Although, the Bush endorsement might make me have to reconsider. Just kidding

What has he done since he founded Rhode Island?

Well, he was a pretty good piano player in his day, show tunes and semi-classical. And I understand he offered his very expensive Steinway Grand to the Reagan library.

Those ones from before were the ratings just from 2009 - let's go with lifetime average for a better picture:

ACU ratings:
Snowe (R-ME) 47.88%
Collins (R-ME) 49.43%

Hutchison (R-TX) 89.77%
Cornyn (R-TX) 93.14%

How about comparing their votes with those of the Maine hags during the lame-duck session and getting back to us on that one?

A campaign worker for a California primary candidate visited an Iowa farmer and hailed a small boy.
He told the boy why he was there, asked if his parents were home, and the boy ran to his father who was elbow deep in grease working on corn head gears.

The father said, “Tell him I’m too busy. Then go put your mother’s good silverware in my gun safe.”

Later that day a Massachusetts candidate showed up, same drill. The father told his boy to tell him he was busy, and, “Make sure my liquor cabinet is locked.”

A Texas candidate came by at dusk, and so forth and so on, and the father orders his son,
“Go sit in your mother’s lap. Right now.”

“Although, the Bush endorsement might make me have to reconsider.”

I know you are kidding, but Pappa Bush’s endorsement serves a valuable function. It lets you know which candidate not to vote for. Although it is generally more valuable when there are only two or three candidates in a primary race.

Kind of like the last governor’s primary. Bush endorsement — nope. Truther — nope. That leaves — aw fudge! Well, the lesser of evils is *still* better than the greater.

Name all of the right-leaning Republican Sentators. I don't think this problem is exclusive to Texas, it's the nature of the Senate.

Is Williams more of a Clarence Thomas Republican or a David Souter Republican?
