Grand jury probes what Edwards knew about spending
AP ^

Posted on 01/17/2011 12:27:08 PM PST by nuconvert

A federal criminal investigation targeting John Edwards is examining how much the two-time presidential candidate knew about money used to cover up his extramarital affair and out-of-wedlock child and whether he had other practices that pushed the bounds of campaign finance laws, people involved in the case have told The Associated Press.

I just have to laugh at the line from the AP article....

“and whether he had other practices that pushed the bounds of campaign finance laws,”

Why doesn’t AP just use the word “Illegal”?

And where is the word Democrat? If Edwards was a Republican it would be a very differently worded article (Hit piece).

Better get the little woman to a Justice of the Peace and don’t even think about a pre-nup.

I hope that little piece of hot pepper was lined with gold for ol’ John, ‘cause it sure has cost him everything else.

Everyone knows that pig is a Democrat. No need to mention something this is very known. I am glad that their daughter is old enough to raise the two young ones as I really hope that John goes to jail for a long time.

Yeah. I’m surprised that AP didn’t say...”Edwards, who is not a REPUBLICAN...”

The reason he wants to marry the ugly skank is so she can’t testify against him.

What’s really low life about this guy is he’s a multi-millionaire but used contributions to pay off his mistress. What a sleeze bag!

Why doesn’t AP just use the word “Illegal”?

Their computers don't let them type that word in.

He is dirty through and through. I am sorry for the young children.

Wasn’t there a recent article which claimed he felt the public would quickly forgive him and happily welcome him back to politics with open arms?

Despicable. Hope he gets to share a cell with Jeffrey Dahlmer’s reincarnate after having his butt sewn shut after being passed around to all the gangbangers who are pissed that he never did help them being ‘poor’. Didn’t he agree to step aside in one presidential campaign after he had a meeting to discuss the remaining candidates promise to help poor people?

Whatever. I consider this a good start and only partial payback for outing Cheney’s daughter then having the audacity to defend it like only a smarmy, smirking, metrosexual adulterous lawer could.

And we lived in NC when he ‘represented’ us. Never saw him do a damn thing for his constituents, only to further his agenda and further line his pockets.

Tom Delay faces five years to life in prison on the money laundering charge and two to 20 years on the conspiracy charge.

A person involved in the investigation and who is familiar with the financial transactions told The AP that Baldick provided Young a salary boost of about $30,000 to move off the Edwards campaign payroll onto one of Baldick’s private organizations around the time Young began taking care of a pregnant Hunter in fall 2007, when the primary campaign was heating up. Young also got more than $150,000 in payments as a commission for money he raised for Alliance for a New America. A month after Young got his last campaign paycheck on Nov. 14, 2007, he publicly claimed paternity of Hunter’s child.

The subpoena asks for material related to Rachel “Bunny” Mellon, the 100-year-old widow of banking heir Paul Mellon. Young wrote in his book that Bunny Mellon would send him checks for hundreds of thousands of dollars hidden in boxes of chocolates, and he would use the money to help keep Hunter in hiding from the public and cancer-striken Elizabeth Edwards, who died just last month. Young wrote that Edwards agreed they should solicit the money from Mellon.

Mellon also had donated to Edwards’ campaign and his PAC and almost single-handedly bankrolled the Alliance for a New America political group with $3.5 million from her investment fund, Oak Spring Farms, also listed in subpoenas.

“five years to life in prison on the money laundering charge “

Isn’t that what people get for manslaughter?

Maybe Edwards can channel his ex-wife to convince the investigators of his innocence in these matters.

According to the article - Delay moved funds/donations around to finance Texas candidates.

It’s not as if he funneled PAC money for personal use and to support a mistress for which John Edwards is being investigated.

One is standard politics and one is misappropriation. IMHO

If it wasn’t wrong, why was it hidden in boxes of chocolate?

If it wasn’t wrong, why didn’t Edwards ask in his Forrest Gump voice, “Why is my money being hidden in a box of chocolate?”

They could have worded it:

“Edwards, a disgraced politician (just as many Republicans are politicians), is being targeted by a federal criminal probe...
