Climate lessons from Africa

Africa has a unique opportunity to provide solutions for the global problem of climate change, says Professor Sir David King, former science adviser to the British government. King was the UK government's chief scientific adviser under former prime minister Tony Blair.

He expressed a "real fondness" for airships -- they can easily transport people and cargo and their powering costs are almost zero because they use helium as a lifting gas.

The development and use of airships could be pioneered by Africa, King said: "They could be the transportation equivalent of the mobile phone, and what it has done for communication in Africa."

King was critical of climate change denialists, saying they need to "face up to the real world of science". "They have no idea of the effort going into climate science; it literally makes me cringe," he said.

"It is my belief that the [US] war in Iraq was about oil, and getting a friendly regime in place to ensure the supply of oil."

King called the $3-trillion spent on the war so far "a joke", saying the entire US economy could have been defossilised. Defossilising of economies will actually be a stimulus because the economies then become sustainable.

Suck it America! Our climate-change ‘scientists’ are way, waaay crazier than yours!

Buy everybody in Africa a helium balloon for the win!!!

Well Dr. King had better go back to school and take some economics courses. Fossil fuels are far cheaper and more sustainable than wind, solar and more available than hydro.

The so called green energy sources are so expensive that converting to the would cripple the economy of the world. We would be sent back to the pre-industrial rates of economic growth.

As for Airships that mode of transportation died for very real reasons. Airships are extremely slow and very vulnerable to weather. They have proven to be deadly because of that vulnerability to weather.

This doctor is either exceedingly ignorant or an ideologue.

The sumptin’ hoop the sumptin’ hoop

The blimp the blimp

The drazy hoops the drazy hoops

They’re camp they’re camp

Tits tits the blimp the blimp

The mother ship the mother ship

The brothers hid under their hood

>From the blimp the blimp

Children stop yer nu sin’ unless yer renderin’ fun

The mother ship the mother ship

The mother ship’s the one

Is this a joke? Transport CARGO with a lighter than air blimp. Seriously, could the Goodyear blimp lift even ONE loaded rail car? I stand in awe of the stupidity.
