Two Gardena High School students have been arrested for allegedly aiding a classmate who brought a gun to school Tuesday that discharged, injuring two, police say. The two students allegedly helped the classmate hide after the gun accidentally went off in a classroom, according to a law-enforcement source. The 17-year-old who brought the gun to school hid for about an hour after the gun discharged. He was then taken into custody. The source said those arrested were 15 and 16 years old. Tim Anderson, deputy chief of the Los Angeles School Police Department, confirmed the arrests but would not provide details. Incoming LAUSD Supt. John Deasy said earlier that Garden High School had violated school-district policy because it did not conduct random weapons searches every day. Deasy said a review by district administrators showed school-district policy required random weapons searches daily.

Somebody ‘splain to me how this pistol went off when he dropped his backpack. Either it was really terrible luck or it was a really lousy pistol
And in other news, as looked around for info on this, I came across one idiot article referring to the weapon as an “automatic pistol.” Cool! Where can get one?
[facepalm].
That was the first question I had also. What type of pistol was it? Revolver or semi? Gees. I carry a semi in my purse and I’ve dropped my purse a few times....it has been my understanding that semi’s like glocks and springfields have several internal mechanisms/safeties that prevent accidental discharges upon being dropped. Hmmm.
Elderados! Ping!
Larry is doing a great job questioning the “story” coming out on this “accidental” shooting.
Probably a older revolver; didn’t get the memo on leaving an empty chamber under the hammer.
Good on Larry. Always a voice of clarity and reason in LaLa Land.
Please ping me with any Southern California related articles. Thank you!

A pistol may initially be either single or double action but it is always, at a minimum, a semiautomatic machine after the first round is discharged.
A revolver has a revolving cylinder, hench the name revolver. A revolver may be single or double action.
Hand guns can be either single shots, revolvers or machine guns (pistols). Pistols may be either semiautomatic or automatic. There is no revolver pistol or pistol revolver.
Great photo, ES!
