LONDON (AFP) – A set of solid gold false teeth used by wartime leader Winston Churchill during some of his most famous speeches sold for 16,000 pounds at auction on Wednesday.

Churchill had problems with his teeth and speech from an early age and the dentures were designed to compensate for the then-prime minister's distinctive lisp when speaking in public, London auctioneers Bonham's said.

The premier's most famous speeches "could have been made over the top of these teeth. I think that's a rather spooky feeling," Bonham's specialist Lionel Willis told AFP.

What's a smile or a speech worth? Gold.

I wonder if they have cigar stain on 'em. I'm sure they have bourbon.

I know he is famous and all, but what the hell do you do with someone else’s fake chompers?

Churchill was said to have also used his false teeth to vent his frustration when the 1939-45 conflict was not going well by dramatically flicking them out of his mouth.

HA.

I do this too, but only when a tomato seed finds it’s way underneath. Quite frustrating for one of Italian heritage who’s diet relies heavily on the noble orb...

At the risk of sounding REALLY perverse, I feel the need
to invoke the usual reminder

Am I the only one who finds this a little creepy?

At least when the item shows up on “PawnStars” they’ll have a value. Rick will offer 8,000 pounds and take it from there.

I got the solid gold part, but that does not remove the fact that they were in someone’s mouth.
I just can’t swallow that.
