Welfare benefits for the children of illegal immigrants cost America's largest county more than $600 million last year, according to a local official keeping tabs on the cost.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich released new statistics this week showing social spending for those families in his county rose to $53 million in November, putting the county government on track to spend more than $600 million on related costs for the year -- up from $570 million in 2009.

Let’s just do away with anchor babies altogether. Just because you sneak across our border overnight and give birth in an American hospital does NOT mean your child is an American in any way, shape, or form!
Newborn Americans are born to an American mother and an American father. If the child is born to parents of 2 different nationalities, the parents choose which nationality the child takes citizenship under.
I’m fed up with the illegal immigration crap in this country. It’s the single biggest problem we’re facing in the near future, and they’re up in DC juggling it like a hot potato for fear of their political futures.

The bleeding hearts always argue that illegals pay more in taxes than they consume. The day they can prove illegals pay over $600 million a year in taxes in LA County alone would be some pretty creative accounting.
It takes a lot of money to make a liberal feel good.
After the welfare reform under Clinton, I had folks swearing to me that illegal immigrants couldn’t get welfare any longer.
I told them I was certain they were still getting it.
My mistake, it’s only $570,000,000.00 per year. These days that’s pocket change.
Oh yes, and Los Angeles County is financially strapped these days. I doubt $570 million not being spent on illegal immigrants would help.
Oh, and then you look at the cost of education in LA County. Does it matter than the public schools have half or more students whose parents are illegal immigrants?
Does it matter that billions are being sucked out of the health care system to pay for the health care of illegal immigrants the taxpayer’s expense?

This statistic is from only ONE of those counties.
Yes. You can safely double that number for the state.
Well it is the one of the most dense counties I would imagine, but you’ve made a good point. And we’re only talking about one state too.
All the border states have this problem, and more and more we’re hearing about other states having it too. I’ve even seen articles written about problems in our norther states even in the New England region.
If they say welfare tab for illegal alien children is $600 million every year, you can bet it's triple that.
