Dingell Running For Re-Election
National Journal ^ | 1/20/11 | Jeremy P Jacobs

Michigan Democratic Rep. John Dingell, the longest serving member of the House, said Thursday that he'll seek another term next year.

"It's the greatest job in the world," Dingell told the Detroit News. "I can help people and ... make things better, and I represent some of the finest people on earth. The people in southeast Michigan are nothing short of wonderful."

Dingell, 84, was first elected to the House in 1955 in a special election after his father, who previously held the seat, passed away. In February of 2009, he became the longest-ever serving member of the House. In his next term, he'll surpass former West Virginia Sen. Robert Byrd (D) as the longest serving member of Congress in history.

Dingell, who has previously served as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, also commented on the possibility that his district composition could change significantly since Republicans have complete control of the redistricting process in Michigan.

Dingell, 84,

Term limits.

Mandatory retirement at 75, at least.

When I’m 84 I want to be sitting in a small cabin dispensing wisdom to my grandchildren and young preachers.

These old dudes hanging out in Congress are like high school grads who keep hanging out in the school for the next few years. Someone ought to take them by the elbow and walk them out to the car.

I hope Dr. Steele runs against him again. I’m sure this time he’ll get support from the RNC. He nearly beat Dingell last time and would have, had he had more cash.

"[Playing the 'system' with my well-established toolbag filled with graft, corruption, kickbacks, and nepotism...] I can help people and ... make things better, and I represent some of the finest people on earth. The people in southeast Michigan are nothing short of wonderful [because through the policies I've supported, I've ran this place into the ground--from the looks of things--and what else would I call them--suckers?]"

Filled in with what must be going through his mind, as he answered that question.

They could run any carrot with a dingell’ing
face carved into it and it’s constituents would
still vote for it. Pavlov’s dog conditioning.

Let’s see get paid $175k a year, free healthcare, free junkets and you don’t even have to read the bills your voting on. Sounds like the perfect retirement to me. Hey Digleberry, no kidding you have the greatest job in the world. Now get the hell out of there and make room for somebody not in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s.

It seems like the only way he’ll leave is when he joins his voters in Michigan Memorial Park. I’m sure my family there voted for him in November.

I don’t know about that, after all you are talking about the blockheads in MI, many of whom many vote for Myth Romney too.

“It’s the greatest job in the world,”

He got that right, It is the greatest job in the world.

No work involved, he doesn’t even have to read what he votes on, He has Secretary’s and interns, gets the best perks in the world. Free postage to mail out his propaganda, why: He doesnt even have to think.

Everything bought and paid for by the taxpayer.

He doesn’t have to worry about re-election either ,the people who vote for him don’t have to think any more than he does. They are democrats and just vote party line.Same thing he does.

It appears to me that his first priority should be to live until 2012 than decide what he will do.

“I can help people and ... make things better

Someone should look at the progression of southeast Michigan since he has been in office. I am quite sure things have gone in the crapper over that period. Dingell, and the Democrat Party should be held responsible!!

Lets remember that John Dingell resigned his position on the NRA board of directors so that he could vote FOR Bill Clinton’s assault rifle ban and magazine ban.
