Chipotle Mexican Grill said Thursday it has fired a substantial number of the 1,200 employees at its 50 Minnesota restaurants after a federal immigration audit found some were illegal workers.
The circumstances of the firings, which began in early December, prompted a noon protest Thursday at a downtown Minneapolis Chipotle restaurant. Minneapolis police arrested eight participants after they chained themselves together inside the restaurant, according to protest organizers.
While Denver-based Chipotle would not disclose how many Minnesota workers were fired for allegedly working illegally, protesters said the number was 700.

1200 employees in 50 stores, that is 24/store. Does that make sense? The one I go to seems to have 5 employees, tops per shift. What is going on with these numbers?
There goes the profit margin.
Hopefully, they could fill those job openings with anybody other than suburban boomer children. They fired the flunky illegals at the Eagan one and replaced them with a bunch of flunky millenials. They flubbed my order. Twice. Which was more than what the illegals would do.

That's just one shift and you don't see all the workers. How many do you think work forty hours a week?
It works well, and in a way that doesn't involve anything other than forcing employers to prove their employees are legal or face serious consequences.

A fully justified act but it reminds me of the time they suggested to the Queen Mother that they fire all the members of the household staff who were gay. She responded, “Who will be left to make the tea?”

Yep....and the good news is that it’s now 700 and not just 50!
Chipotle has apparently replaced the terminated employees. Its Minnesota employment was 1,200 both before and after the firings, said spokesman Chris Arnold.
