I’m with you. Cut all of the useless programs immediately. Those with some residual value, phase out over three years and the worthwhile programs — assuming there are any — get their budgets halved and either consolidated or eliminated in five years.

And are these numbers actual CUTS or just denials of INCREASES? That’s another cute little subterfuge the hired help like to use ...

Save America's Treasures Program. $25 million annual savings.

I know a DumBO voter that was so proud his son was studying historic preservation in college. His attitude, that, this is a useful occupation shows the extent that feeding at the public trough for useless things is acceptable. Personally, I could do better with a gallon of gas and a match.

Legal Services Corporation. $420 million annual savings.

Not to mention the savings resulting from these people suing the government.

If the Congressional Republicans don’t actually cut the budget in the next two year, and merely slow it’s growth, they risk losing tea party support, and they can kiss their majority goodbye forever.

Sorry, but the more important list is “who are these ‘hawks’ and what are they really really going to do about it?”

We hope they know that. They do have to start somewhere, I agree.
But notoriously missing are EPA and Dept. of Energy.
EPA ops should be delegated to State-level if continued at all.

The cutting would start immediately, that's the point. These monies are given out every year, year after year, so the savings will "accumulate" over time.

Politicians just like to state the 10-year total because it sounds more impressive.

This is a starting point. They've already said there'll be further cutting.

I don’t see any Department of Education cuts in there. No reason for the feds to be involved in any K-12 program.

Factor in tax cuts for 75% of the savings and use the rest to reduce the debt.

2.5 trillion would barely cover one year’s deficit.
