Posted on 01/21/2011 6:36:23 AM PST by GailA
"They say it's a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels. You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel," Cohen said. "The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it -- believed it and you have the Holocaust."
"I don't think there is anything to apologize for
I do regret that people, whether the Jewish people might be offended because of a reference to an infamous Nazi political propagandist or to my Republican colleges who I certainly didn't say anything about. I didn't say anything about any human being, simply about the message and process of delivering the message."
House Dem compares GOP health care case to Nazi propaganda
Say What? Democrat Compares Republicans to Nazis
ABC News Jonathan Karl reports: The newfound civility didnt last long. Political rhetoric in Congress doesnt get much nastier than the words of one House Democrat during the debate on repealing the health care law.
In an extraordinary outburst on the House floor, Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.
They say its a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels, Cohen said. You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. Thats the same kind of thing. And Congressman Cohen didnt stop there.
The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed itbelieved it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care. Politifact said the biggest lie of 2010 was a government takeover of health care because there is no government takeover, Cohen said.
Cohen made his comments late last night, but they have attracted no attention because his speech was made to a virtually empty House chamber with no reporters around to watch.

The guy is a certifiable wack-a-doodle.

Its not his first open mouth and insert foot moment.
Dem. Rep. Steve Cohen (TN) I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, that the parties have differences. But if you want change, you want the Democratic Party. Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor. Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
I submit to you, Mr. Speaker, um, that the parties have differences, but if you want Change, but if you want change, you want the Democratic party, uh, Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus who our, uh, minister prayed about, uh, Pontius Pilate was a governor.
Lawmaker: Thank God Bush is gone
July 22, 2010,
There are many Democrats and at least a few Republicans on Capitol Hill who say theyre glad former President George W. Bush is no longer in office, but Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) this week went one step further: He thanked the Almighty for it.
Cohen took to the House floor on Tuesday, where he delivered remarks titled Thank God Bush is Gone.
Cohen blamed the 43rd president for the financial crisis, calling him Hoover George Bush, after former president Herbert Hoover.
Now all [people] can say is Bush is gone, Cohen said, Nobody can defend him.
The lawmaker took a few more swipes at the former president over tax cuts and the Iraq war before concluding, Now all they can say is that hes gone. Thank God hes gone.
Career Politician, never held a real job.
Stephen Ira Stevo Cohen (born May 24, 1949) is the U.S. Representative for Tennessees 9th congressional district, serving since 2007. He is a member of the Democratic Party. He previously served as a Tennessee State Senator for 24 years.
Tennessees 9th district includes almost three-fourths of Memphis. Cohen is Tennessees first Jewish congressman. Cohen is the only non-black representing a black majority district in Congress.
While serving for three years as Legal Advisor for the Memphis Police Department, Cohen rose to political prominence when he was elected to the Tennessee Constitutional Convention of 1977 at the age of 27. The Convention elected him its vice president. Cohen was then elected to serve as a commissioner on the Shelby County Commission, an office he held from 1978 to 1980. During his time at the Commission, Cohen was instrumental in the creation of The Med, a community-funded regional hospital. In 1980, Cohen served as an interim Shelby County General Sessions Court judge. He has also served as a delegate to the 1980, 1992, and 2004 Democratic National Conventions.

TNGOP Chairmans Statement Regarding Democrat Congressman Steve Cohens Reckless Rhetoric
I seen this guy last night on the news. I also seen he is from Tennessee and I just guessed that he was probably from a Memphis district?
Says the Socialist conniving to crush our Liberties with the National iron fist.
DemonRATs never back down.
Whereas RINOs will fall all over themselves and get all wee-weed to beg forgiveness for anything of which they are accused by the opposition, which includes all the major media.
Secret Code. Need a Jew. Cohen. Code. Nazi. Hmmmm. Jew. Hate Tea Party. Code. Secret. Hate Conservatives. Cohen. Man for job. Code. HHmmmmmmmm!
9th. He beat the former Memphis mayor in the primary for a third term, and then the Tea Party candidate in the general election. She was a black conservative business woman. We worked our fannies off to try and get her elected, but he won by 75%.
She is just a working woman and didn’t have the $$ to compete. Then the press was on HIS side to boot.
Given his support of socialist healthcare, Cohen actually is a Nazi.
He sounds like a real piece of work.
Secular Jew, champion of GENOCIDE in any form of the Unborn, never met a tax hike he didn’t vote for, worship’s at 0 feet, need I say more?
Unfortunately I have to live in his district because we can’t sell this paid for 45 year old house for enough to buy a new one the same size 3,800 sq ft, and at 70 my hubby is not about to move.
We are hoping since our State Gov’t is now GOP controlled to redistrict him out. We live on the fringe of his district.
Cohen joins the long list of Kapos in this Regime and this Congress. They disgrace themselves and Jews everywhere.
An inconvenient reminder to Cohen:
Leftists love hyperbole, and they love accusing their ideological opponents of crimes of humanity for opposing their agenda. However, they have a particular affinity for Hitler/Nazi metaphors. This is not just because Hitler and Nazism were evil and were responsible for the deaths of millions. After all, communism and its practitioners around the globe have been responsible for far more murder, oppression, and miserable living conditions than the relatively small-fry one-off historical atrocity of Nazism.
Leftists love Hitler references because of the meme that Nazism was a right-wing ideology.
True, Nazism did have elements of fascism, which has been associated with the ideology of several other 20th-century dictators. But if leftists think they can get away with popularizing the notion that Nazism more closely mirrors contemporary conservatism than leftism, theyd better hope people dont look too closely at Nazi ideology and start drawing their own conclusions.
The Nazis 25-point plan contained such limited-government recommendations as:
That all unearned income, and all income that does not arise from work, be abolished
[A]ll personal profit arising from the war must be regarded as treason to the people. We therefore demand the total confiscation of all war profits
We demand the nationalization of all trusts
We demand profit-sharing in large industries
We demand a generous increase in old-age pensions
The State has the duty to help raise the standard of national health by providing maternity welfare centers, by prohibiting juvenile labor, by increasing physical fitness through the introduction of compulsory games and gymnastics, and by the greatest possible encouragement of associations concerned with the physical education of the young
We demand the abolition of the regular army and the creation of a national (folk) army
In case its not obvious, these planks overlap with 90% of the platform of the modern Democratic Party.
"Piece of..." yes. "Work"? Uhhhh, no.
A shill for the father of lies, Obama.
Vote the pukes out of office.
Sounds like Memphis is another city which needs the thermonuclear cure. Get the hell out before the quarantine.
Unfortunately unless we can redistrict him out, we won’t get him out. Yes he is a first class A-hole and a LIAR to boot.
At our ages it is hard to pull up roots, and try to find a home any where near the size of ours. If this were Cali or NY this home would go for half a Mil...we can’t get enough out to pay for a new one the same size. And we don’t want another house payment and more debt.
We are debt free except for the monthly stuff, insurance and taxes.
Well...do what you need to do.
Some of us are stuck in this cesspool for 60 more years and need to be as far away from the vermin as possible.
We do, we keep voting against them, not that it does much good, and for the vermin keep the guns loaded and the alarm on.
