Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will give the Republican response to President Obama's State of the Union address, a senior GOP official told The Hotline on Friday.
The seven-term Republican, newly installed as the chairman of the House Budget Committee, is one of the most prominent deficit hawks in Congress. And he is close to House leadership as a third of the original "Young Guns" program, along with Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

My personal hero.
Smart as a whip and soooo cute. . .
Good choice. He would be much better taking the place of Obama.
Better stock up on popcorn. This is gonna be good.
You can’t have him! He’s mine!!!!
yes !!! it’s about time.
I am thrilled with this choice. It might even encourage me to watch this useless spectacle. I wish they would do away with TV speeches when all that is required is a report to be submitted to Congress.
MINE! I put dibs on him in 2003 when I met him when he was the featured speaker at a Catholic Coalition for Bush dinner.
Love, love, love Paul Ryan!
You know O will be lying thru his teeth because he knows Ryan is going to be awesome on the debt. Wish this had been kept a secret so O couldn’t tailor his lies to meet Ryan.
“Young guns”, OH MY!!
Paul is kryptonite to Obama. He made mincemeat of Obama at the healthcare summit and I expect the same here. Paul’s mastery of the budget allows him to factually depict Obama and Dems as lying, reckless spenders. This will be great.
Any topic concerning employment, the economy, or spending that Obama mentions in his speech will be shredded by Paul Ryan.
Marco Rubio was my other choice. Many of the same intellectual attributes as Ryan, but with a boyish charm and enthusiasm.
No worries. Obama is in the ...
Hi is MY favorite ‘Young Gun’......back off bit*hes!!!!
This will be good! I like Ryan! He be smart!
These idiots are not going to sit together are they?
He's the political 'McDreamy'
How about instead, we do this:
In introducing the President, the Speaker of the House speaks for a minute about the history of the SOTU. How it is in the Constitution, and started out as a simple message delivered to Congress. He can mention how GW's SOTU was 3 paragraphs, that Presidents started delivering them personally in (whatever year it was) and that with the advent of nationally broadcast addresses, they have become major annual events. "And with that, we give you President Barack Obama, to deliver his address as to the State of the Union".
Then, at the end of the SOTU, the Speaker turns to the gallery and says, "Thank you very much, Mr. President, for delivering the SOTU. Now, for a commentary by the House of Representatives regarding the President's comments, the chair recognizes Congressman Paul Ryan".
Then, in front of that same packed chamber, Ryan gives his address.
I know, I know, I'm dreaming. What I would do is not what Boehner would do. He will be shaking Obama's hand and glad-handing after the speech. But Ryan ought to at least find a way to deliver his address to an audience. Maybe he skips the SOTU and delivers his speech to an arena in his home district or something like that. The arena could have a jumbotron where they have watched the SOTU first. We could have live video of the attendees booing Obama. Then cut to Ryan.
That is something that I think could be done, even by Boehner.
That is the plan.
Isn’t it sweet.
Kinda like a date without having to spring for dinner. Will they all hold hands?
I’m thinking we should be asking for a DADT rule just for the politicians.
There is no way in hell that we should be doing ANYTHING to help Obama with his public rehabilitation campaign and as I see it, that is exactly what this nonsense does.
