HONOLULU – A privacy law that shields birth certificates has prompted Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to abandon efforts to dispel claims that President Barack Obama was born outside Hawaii, his office says.
State Attorney General David Louie told the governor that privacy laws bar him from disclosing an individual's birth documentation without the person's consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Friday.

More smoke rising, hopefully some swing state legislature will pass legislation REQUIRING any candidate for President provide copies of their ORIGINAL birth certificate in order to be placed on the ballot.
If this were about a Republican, nothing would stop the media from getting the information out, even the law.
Gee, what doesn’t Hussein want Americans to know?
I dont usually get caught up in the birther thing but even I have to say, what? I can almost guarantee this wont shut up the chatter, lol. Just brings more I would think. VERY WEIRD
Obama is a Con Man. This is the greatest con of all time. A hoax of monumental size.
It seems odd to me that Abercrombie would even bring this up. He has to be an idiot just to mention this.
“Unfortunately there is nothing the governor can do to release the B/C without the person’s consent”
In other words, Obama has not given consent ...the whole point that those on the right have made! He has NOT given consent to have the actual document shown. Naturally, this was given on a Friday news dump. Notice it came AFTER Limbaugh spent some time on the radio about the Ambercrobie.
“Hawaii’s privacy laws have long barred the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who doesn’t have a tangible interest.”
I think all Americans have a “tangible interest”.
Is it possible now to do FOI requests for any contacts between the Governor and White House or is that just a pipe dream?
it is obvious at this point that the man was born in Kenya....and the SCOTUS needs to out him.
“Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo again confirmed Friday that Obama’s name is found in its alphabetical list of names of people born in Hawaii, maintained in bound copies available for public view.”
About the list — are the entries handwritten, typed on a typewriter used in the early 60’s, or computer generated?
How long has Abercrombie been yapping about this and it took THIS LONG for the Attorney General to get around to telling him this?
That under race it says, “White”. Let that firework off!
Is there not one reporter who will stand up at a press conference and say...”Mr. President, why not just release your long form birth certificate”?
Yeah...it'll make a great movie someday. If we're allowed to watch movies not produeced by The State by then.
drip, drip, drip
STLToday.com had this as one of the main stories yesterday, then they dropped it down the page, now it’s off the front page as of this morning:
But not before becoming one of the most popular and most commented stories. Fail!
Unfortunately there is nothing the governor can do to release the B/C without the persons consent
Ummmh, Governor Abercrombie - that’s the whole point. Normal people don’t spend on the order of a million dollars in legal fees to keep their birth certificate under wraps unless they’ve got something to hide.
Now, Governor Abercrombie, you can join the crowd in speculating exactly what it is that he’s trying to hide.
Keep in mind that while there are many people who question 0bama's birthplace on the right, the movement itself started with disgruntled Hillary Clinton supporters. Is Gov. Abercrombie secretly in the Hillary 2012 camp?
