Rep. Ellmers Plans To Carry Handgun
NBC Channel 17 ^ | January 21, 2011 | NBC17 Staff

Posted on 01/22/2011 6:59:34 AM PST by stevie_d_64

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina's newest Representative Renee Ellmers said the deadly shooting rampage in Arizona has made her concerned for her own safety.

Ellmers said she has a concealed carry permit and plans to carry a handgun at public events.

However, even in light of the shootings she said she will not support restrictions on certain ammunition.

"I think it was an isolated incident and has more to do with the individual who committed the crime than the actual ammo he was using," said Ellmers.

North Carolina Congressman Health Shuler has also said in recent weeks he will carry a concealed weapon during events. He's been doing so in Washington, D.C. since receiving death threats in 2009.

Washington DC has some of the most restrictive handgun laws in the country, but being in Congress this lady can probably get away with carrying a concealed weapon.

How about the rest of us?

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (Arizona’s TOP GUN Sheriff) has offered to supply armed posse (volunteer men) to all public official events here in Arizona. He said “having a police presence might be a strong deterrent”

How about Congressman Heath Schuler? He says he’s been carrying in DC since he received a threat-—I wonder how many other DC residents who have “received threats” can carry guns?

The article fails to identify the party affiliation of the two House Members.

Heath Schuler - D:

Blue Dog, ran against Pelosi for speaker recently, scrambling to retain his seat in the next election, will probably be redistricted by State Legislature.

Renee Elmers - R:

Newly elected in the 2010 tsunami.

Defeated this guy:

"Who Are You?"

Bob Etheridge

Unabashed gun talk with your Congressional representative at public events, maybe even a "range" event now and then.

The way it should be.

I don't think Rep. Giffords would have been helped if she had been carrying. The shooting happened in an instant. The sheriff should have had police presence at the event since he knew about the perp hating her. We can carry if they carry. Or, are some people more equal than others?

Because Schuler is a RAT’. Just like those “anti-war” pukes who really were anti-Bush/republican, the same nonsense applies: it’s only good if a Dumbocrap does it.

You are absolutely right...Things like this happen in an instant!!! The only thing that will happen will be reactive in nature...

Having a firearm for personal protection does not guarantee even the most trained or experienced person the ability to stop a determined attack if they don’t even know or see it coming...

And no, elected officials are not above us or better than us...At most, they have made the decision to put themselves up for public scrutiny, and be voted by their constituency to represent us...

As for Shuler, he should have stuck to football...And he is not alone in the death threat catagory...All of them get these all the time, so he is not special...Does that mean he doesn’t deserve the right to do things to protect himself??? Absolutely not!!! Regardless of political philosophy, affiliation or any other demographic, no elected official should not do things to protect themselves, because there are people out there who would like to hurt them...

And no one deserves what happened to Gabriella Giffords in that regard...

I haven’t seen anything about the ammo except that he had two thirty round mags. I doubt that he had hollow points.

I don’t mean to lessen the imporance of the Constitution, hallowed document that it is, nor denigrate the precious blood of patriots, shed in securing and guaranteeing our freedoms. The Constitution gives no rights, but rather it enumerates those inalienable rights, that we, as human beings, are are endowed with by our Creator. We need to always remember this simple fact.

Yes I do and I also remember Webb throwing his ‘buddy’ under the bus.
I definitely lost the last shred of ‘respect’ I had for Jim Webb over this incident.
Marines do NOT act like this, especially towards one another.

IMNSHO, Webb should have ‘manned up’ and taken the heat for the weapon but he claimed ignorance....typical Liberal move.

Silly serf. Self protection is for the enlightened political classes not for tax paying peasants such as us.

Now get back to work and pay your taxes.

If Sheriff Numnutz (I didn't know his name is actually an insult in Polish -- it is) had been on the ball and on his game, that drooling moonbat would have had about three sheriff's men on him the minute he walked up to the congresswoman. The instant he drew, he'd have died instantly.

I heard it happen once long, long ago -- 1973 -- in Atlanta. It was 11:00 pm or so, and I was reading in bed when I heard "fireworks" about eight blocks away from the rooming house I lived in. It was the Atlanta police closing out a rapist they'd been working for weeks, who liked to go around pointing a big-frame wheelgun at unaccompanied women and forcing them into his car. He pointed his piece at an undercover policewoman, and it was all she wrote. They shot him about 35 times in two seconds. No more Mr.Rapist.

See...Now that is a happy ending...

Not so sure even if Sheriff Knucklehead had had a few deputies around would that have worked...If that had been the plan they should have rounded him up even before he got to the event...But for what, I would not know what they would have charged him with...

But hindsight is 20/20...
