Thoughts on the Olbermann Firing (Will this Bring Back Fairness Doctrine)?
Federal Review ^ | 01/22/2011

While it's tempting for conservatives to cheer the termination of the liberal blowhard from MSNBC, I have a bad feeling that the Obama administration will try and use this to ram through some of their proposals for regulating broadcast content and the internet.

Despite the fact that MSNBC will still feature liberals Matthews, Maddow, O'Donnell and Schultz as their big "stars," and despite the center-left bent to the big three networks and CNN, liberals are already using the Olbermann firing to advance the myth that there is nothing out there to balance against "Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and the vast network of right-wing talk radio."

That sort of rhetoric typically comes shortly before the left takes another stab at censoring conservative media outlets. And with the Olbermann news coming on the heels of liberals trying to blame free speech for the Giffords shooting one can easily envision yet another attempt at censorship.

By the way, as we all know, Olbermann went to Cornell which is located in...Ithaca ...the City of Evil.

There is something to this. I have at least one liberal friend who is “pleased” by Olbermann’s dismissal, because he wants to see toned down rhetoric on the airwaves. That can only mean one thing when Fox, Limbaugh et. al. don’t follow suit of their own accord: regulation.

A rather ridiculous contention given the entire MSNBC prime time lineup remains liberal.

Now that Olbermann is gone and Comcast takes over next week, the MSNBC lineup is going to fall like a house of cards.

The goal of any business is to make a profit.
While many silly and asinine people are still on TV making a profit for their employers at some point if the person is viewed as being totally insane and agenda driven they lose appeal and thus audience. The result is firing.

Whew....from your link:

Politically, the city's population has a significant tilt towards liberalism and the Democratic Party. A November, 2004 study by ePodunk lists it as New York's most liberal town.[15] This contrasts with the more conservative leanings of the surrounding Upstate New York region, and is also somewhat more liberal than the rest of Tompkins County. In 1988 Jesse Jackson received the most votes in Ithaca in the Democratic Presidential primary. In 2000 Ralph Nader received more votes for President than George W. Bush in the City of Ithaca,[16] and 11% county-wide.[17] In 2008, Barack Obama, running against New York State's Senator Hillary Clinton, won Tompkins County in the Democratic Presidential Primary, the only county that he won in New York State.[18] Obama went on to win Tompkins County (including Ithaca) by a wide margin of 41% over his opponent John McCain in the November 2008 election.

The ‘Fairness Doctrine’ violates the First Amendment. It is intended to suppress criticism of all sorts of indefensible policy, unlawfulness and unethical behavior.

of a liberal and according to npr Williams is not a liberal.
