As a presence in several evolving conflicts around the world, Marines must remain up-to-date on the newest technology in order to defeat the enemy and complete the mission at hand.
For the sniper community, that title belongs to the Model 110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System.
"What (Marines) were finding as we got into Iraq and Afghanistan is that the bolt-action M40 sniper rifle we had was not able to rapidly engage targets in a built-up environment," said Capt. Carlos Cuevas, precision weapons team lead, program manager, Product Group 13 (infantry weapons), Marine Corps Systems Command, Headquarters Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. "What they needed was a semi-automatic system to be able to rapidly engage targets."
The Model 110 SASS is the weapon the Corps is fielding to fill this void and Marines from III Marine Expeditionary Force received the new rifle weapons system here Jan. 10. Consequently, the Okinawa-based Marines from 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III MEF were the first to train with the new weapons system, according to Cuevas.
The ever-changing combat environment, both in Iraq and Afghanistan, shaped the specific requirements for the new weapons system, he added.
For example, the required maximum effective range no longer simply meant the maximum range at which the rifle could hit a man-sized target, but the max range at which the rifle could rapidly engage those man-sized targets without limiting accuracy.
The capabilities of the M110 SASS, specifically the ability to rapidly engage targets, complement existing weapon systems currently in use by the Marine Corps and helps add functionality and flexibility to the scout sniper arsenal.

Ok....last “real” brookfield I found on ebay ran me 300$. I will have to search out these two you use and speak of.....
DPMS makes a really version of Reed Knights SR-25 that I want . The SR-25 is tooooooooo much duckets ! The new USMC KAC will fill the bill.
The USMC’s basic tools are now all AR platforms. This new surgical tool. Their SAW replacement and basic rifle. Wow !

I need to grab one for my new springfield M1A as I want to keep that as my truck gun yet don’t want my TRW flavor with the brookfield stolen. It is gonna be a safe dweller and see the range only from now on. Retired !
Which makes a lot of sense from a training standpoint. There are more accurate platforms out there but for military purposes this one will be more than good enough. Put this bad boy in the hands of a few Marine Scout/Snipers and they'll bring a world of doom on bad guys the world around.

it's all steel... and it took a little fitting of the dovetail but all in all, for $90, it's a good deal
But I've never had any real trouble with mine so I haven't had cause to replace it.
Oh agree 100%.....plus will be tough for an enemy marksman to target the “different” troop by a special weapon carried. The SAW I think is a piston version Hk 416 that will only be obvious to a sniper if the gunner uses something like a CMAG etc ...
This new sniper rig is Reed’s KAC factory.
M4’s I have seen are colt, bushmaster and Hk in the field of late.......
What are you using for optics? I have tossed a few cheaper scopes and I can finally (maybe) get something worth sticking with.

Now Frantzie, don't be such a cynic. This $5,000 thoroughly-modern-wonder is almost as good as a $500 M14, and also has a built in flashlight, corkscrew, and decoder ring.
There's another advantage. The M-14s are available immediately. This one has to go through a few years of field testing and improvements, which will create jobs ... in Mexico.
I got one similar, so iron sights can be used quickly too!
Gonna snag one , try it. I have in the past helped folks I work with “make” em work but a few times we got lucky and the fit and hold was perfect. I guess everyone of the mounts is a bit different and as you did a bit of detailing will make em good and solid.
I’ll get the one you have and try it first. If I’m lucky it’ll work as yours did. If not, a few set screws and some locktite should make it proper for EDC !

I’m sorry but whats a brookfield?
Brookfield Precision Tool made the best M1A mounts long ago. Very good mount. Zero play and stood up to rough use. I carried one in the service. Now I have just the one on my M1A and was looking for another.
