Allegory of the Cave of the Mama Grizzly

It was my online friend narciso, the pen name of a brilliant commenter on the day's events, who first summed up this week's folderol over Sarah Palin. "One is struck," he noted, " by how much Plato's 'Tale of the Cave' seems to fit this paradigm ... Those that only follow the networks, or the Times or USA Today, even, are always 'unexpectedly surprised,' when reality doesn't match the paradigm they've assimilated by osmosis."

There was a lot of sage stuff online trying to explain what happened and why to Sarah Palin this week, and although I'll mention some of the best analysis I found, my own belief is that the vicious treatment of her stems as much as anything from the discordant feelings she inspires as she takes media prisoners out of their mental cave and into the bright sun and exposes the puppeteers as fools and knaves.

.....In my view, the media tarring of Sarah Palin respecting the Tucson tragedy is an event which -- perhaps not this week, but soon enough -- will be remembered for having exposed the political class and cultural elites as the puppeteers projecting their own ignorance and violent hatred of Sarah onto her. Those who uncritically followed the media will come to see that they have spent too much time in the cave and need to get out into the sunshine and face some realities.

Actually most of FR figured most of these points out some time ago.

Actually, many of them haven't figured it out yet. Those freepers are still sitting in the dark and watching the puppeteers. When they finally move into the sunlight, they won't buy into the "inside the beltway" conservative elitism.

"You’re more thick-headed than the media goons!"

I haven't seen you offer any solutions for her failing numbers.

I'm a realist..not an emotional cheerleader. If Sarah could win, I would be the happiest person on the planet. Right now..solutions need to be gathered and implemented. I just do not understand why no one has been coaching her. John McCain's back stabbing staff still advising her or what?

Is it your job just to blow smoke up her behind no matter how poorly she does and then just watch her crash and burn when there may have been an easy solution?

That kind of thing works for high school popularity contests.

There is a slight chance she can overcome the propaganda put out there that she is stupid..and it's not going to happen cause some pajama ninja screams from the top of their lungs and turns blue. She has to make it happen.

Start working to come up with positive solutions, help her improve her presentation or you can put your pom pons down and go home.

She has no failing numbers.

What are you smoking?

She controls the debate. The president and the media are forced to respond to all that she says.

I wish you and all that are like you were done; America would be a better place.

I haven't seen you offer any solutions for her failing numbers.

I put those numbers in the trash with the numbers that now say Americans do not want to repeal the health care takeover and the numbers that say 0zero is a civil leader. They are in there with the numbers that said the military will embrace homosexual sex and the numbers that suggested California's Proposition 8 would never pass and the numbers that claim climate change is man made and on and on and on...

I left the cave LONG AGO -join me, the sunshine is blinding at first BUT you get used to it...

Her failing numbers?

You mean those same failing numbers that will be
such a surprise to the pundits when they see
the vast numbers of her supporters rally around
and unexpectedly drive hundreds of miles to show
their support?

My gosh, where did THEY come from???

From the article: "Yes, many liberal women irrationally hate Palin, but I think they hate her because her very life is dragging them into the sunshine, where they have momentarily lost their way. Right now, Palin's very life is an affront to them -- she's beautiful, powerful, and the center of a large family -- and most of them are not. It will take these people some time to see that it is their own views and conduct, not Palin's, that is responsible for the distinction."

Bingo! Sarah projects truth and values - "she's beautiful, powerful, and the center of a large family -- and most of them are not" . . Liberals live with denial and defense mechanisms. Sarah is the perfect denial and projection, displacement, rationalization, envy focus for their venom. They would do well to confront their denial and do some cave searching. . .

help her improve her presentation

I feel your pain. Many feel she should work on her 'style'. Given. What gives me hope is that none have attacked her 'substance'. The wave of support Sarah will receive will cause those with doubts (about her style- stupid) to dissipate.

We're witnessing the re-election campaign of the worst President in our country's history. As much as I'd like to see efforts to market Sarah, I'd much rather see efforts to expose the Kenyan marxist and his plan to destroy capitalism in America while replacing it with government central planning.

The story of the Comeback Kid will not be written about Obama, but Sarah. She's been attacked and vilified for things she hasn't even done, non-stop by the media. America will hear her story and it will resonate with the millions who have had to deal with adversity in their lives. BabyDoc Obama's story will not hold water. He's toast. Just another in a failed attempt to socialize the greatest nation on earth.

I just do not understand why no one has been coaching her.

Because she doesn't need coaching, especially by RINO professionals, huckleberry.

Her odd speech patterns are a problem. If you ignore it, it will hurt her chances. People are shallow and it annoys them, ...sorry, that is just life.

The worst thing you can do for someone that you want to succeed is tell them everything they do is perfect..if you do that, you are no true friend at all.

Her odd speech patterns are a problem.

Well, I'm sorry that you have such trouble understanding plain old Middle Class American English, and would rather that she change by adopting a phony Harvard speech pattern.

Seems like every Tom, Dick, and Harry full of free advice wants HER to change superficially rather than listen to the gist of what she's saying.

The bottom line is that people like you would have problems with how Abraham Lincoln spoke if he were alive and involved in politics today.

It's beyond tragic.

I understand what she has to say and I agree with her completely.

And for your info..I have had a problem with my own speech patterns my entire life and I frequently work with people who have disabilites ..so I know exactly what it can do to you and how people react to it.

Her problem is mild but pronounced and can easily be corrected. But if she doesn't fix it..I give her zero chance of winning.

“When the mind of an ardent opponent is changed, he becomes an ardent supporter. When the truth about Sarah Palin is revealed to people in a campaign, there will be a tsunami of support heading her way.”

A Road to Damascus conversion tends to take the zealot and turn him in the opposite direction. Not just with St. Paul. Whittaker Chambers is another example that come to mind.

You might call it the Whiplash effect.
