Posted on 01/23/2011 3:15:02 PM PST by Dubya-M-DeesWent2SyriaStupid!
A key House Republican is quickly pressing forward with her goals to scale back U.S. funding for the United Nations.
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told The Hill that oversight would be a key function of the panel, particularly funding to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) that is "a waste of taxpayer dollars."

Defund the U.N.
That sounds like good news but the GOP usually caves.
Oh Yea, Let China fund them. Rock On.
All the money and goods we gave to Haiti just sits. I am sick of the phoney UN. I wish we would cut them off and make our own donations to starving children directly.
Defunding our UN dues...that is a great place to cut the budget. Bravo!
I will bet my right arm that the GOP won’t push to get the US out of the UN. That would require a spinal column and balls, two things the GOP does not have.
I know. I thought this very thing but I wanted some hope today.
The GOP will say they cut them off of millions and in the end we give them billions. I think it is an appeasement so the tea party shuts up.
“make our own donations to starving children directly”.
Our charity should begin here.
I went and read the -entire- article and it ‘sounds like’ they want to expose the UN like never before.
DEFUND all UNaccountable bureaucrats and their collectives. NOW!
I would go a lot further.
Not only would I defund the UN completely, I would also resign from the UN as a country and then give the remaining occupants thirty days to move to another country.
Let the UN see if they can solve the world’s problems without us and our money.
we’re already over a billion dollars in arrears....
Good place to start trimming the fat from this hog. I approve.
“One Dollar One Vote”
From your lips to God’s ears. The NWO progressive democrats and some GOP would NEVER have any of that.
I think Only Paul,Bachmann or Palin would MAYBE actually do that.
Got my vote!
Time for other countries, like China, to take on more of the burden.
Cut them off $ and give them an notice of eviction,,,!
I’d be perfectly happy if we never game them another dime.
Defund now - no audit needed.
Spending originates in the house, so all they need to do is not allow it to start.
>> “were already over a billion dollars in arrears” <<
No we’re way overpaid to the Genocide Club.
Very cool, if true.
And appoint Obama to be King of the UN, right after we drop out of the damned thing.
Please run for POTUS and truly enact what you said.
"The administration of
President Barack Obama repaid all the money the United States owed the United Nations last year. U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice told reporters on Thursday that Washington pays its U.N. dues "in full and on time."
She said there was an issue of "contested arrears" -- debts that Washington does not agree it owes the United Nations.
"They must be counting contested arrears if it gets to a figure which gets close to anything like that," she said in reference to the $1.2 billion figure cited by Kane.
As the United Nations' single biggest contributor, Washington is responsible for roughly one-quarter of the U.N. peacekeeping budget and slightly less than a quarter of the separate U.N. regular budget."
The current UN building is in huge disrepair. So much so that the UN has been talking about renting empty office spaces around the current structure while it under goes a major overhaul and renovation costing tens of billions of U.S. dollars.
The U.S. needs to defund all its UN operations. Tell all the UN bureaucrats to relocate their offices to their other three headquarters. Give them six months. At seven months, implode the current UN building and tell the City of New York they now have prime development land.
Then, tell the UN to go pound sand. We [America] are forming new alliances with friendly countries of our choice. The corrupt bastards at the UN can pick each other’s pockets, but America's funding of UN incompetence, graft and corruption is over.
Plus the UN increased the US’s share for peacekeeping. so, they’ll get their arrears one way or the other..

Most Outrageous Government Waste
SNIP SNIP EXCERPTS
Dubious government spending schemes abound since bureaucrats play with other peoples money. For example, the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) spent $70,029 to see if the degu, a diurnal South American rodent, can help us better understand jet lag . . . they spent $77,826 to study Coping with Change in Czechoslovakia . . . $100,271 to see if volunteering is good for older people . . . $124,910 to reduce School Phobia in children . . . $161,913 to study Israeli reactions to SCUD Attacks during the Gulf War . . . and $187,042 to study the quality of life in Hawaii.
Over the years, political wrangling twists the most noble-sounding government programs beyond recognition. For example, the Social Security Administrations $25 billion a year Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. Almost 250,000 children qualify for SSI checks because they cant participate in age appropriate activities. Worse, thousands of prisoners get SSI checks relating to their alleged disabilitiescosting taxpayers about $20 million a year.
Thats not all. In Denver, the government reportedly sent $160,000 to recipients at their official addressa tavern. A San Francisco addict used his SSI check to buy drugs, which he subsequently sold on the street for a profit. A Van Nuys, California, alcoholic received a $26,000 SSI check, then spent the money on a van and two cars which he subsequently wrecked while driving drunk. Los Angeles SSI recipients reportedly faked mental illness and had a doctor concoct false medical records, so they could pocket $45,000 worth of checks. An estimated 79,000 alcoholics and drug addicts are believed to spend SSI checkssome $360 million annuallyon their habits.
Again and again, programs aimed at the poor are captured by well-heeled interest groups. For example, the Commerce Departments U.S. Travel and Tourism Administration (USTTA) gave away $440,000 in so-called disaster relief to Western ski resort operators when there wasnt much snow.
The Economic Development Administration spent anti-poverty funds to help build a $1.2 million football stadium in spiffy Spartanburg, South Carolina. During the summer, it will serve as a practice facility for the National Football League Carolina Panthers, and the rest of the year it will be used by Wofford College, which has a $50 million endowment.
Look at one of the most enduring legacies of Lyndon Johnsons War on Poverty: the Appalachian Regional Commission. It was billed as help for an impoverished region. During the past three decades, this bureaucracy youve probably never heard of has spent $6.2 billion, yet the region remains impoverished.
Where did the money go? Two-thirds was spent building 26 highways connecting well-to-do urban centers. The money went to construction workers whose wages are definitely above-average. Despite revolutionary talk in Washington, the Appalachian Regional Commission goes on and on.
Or take the plight of the family farmer. I know youve been regaled about wasteful spending on agricultural subsidies, so Ill just cite a single intriguing example: 1.6 million farm subsidy checks for $1.3 billion, mailed to urban zip codes during the past decade. New York City farmers pocketed $7 million during the past decade, Washington, D.C., farmers $10 million, Los Angeles farmers $10.7 million, Minneapolis farmers $48 million, Miami farmers $54.5 million, and Phoenix farmers $71.5 million. Among those on the take, to the tune of $1.3 million: 47 farmers in Beverly Hills, Californiaone of Americas wealthiest cities.
A lot of government spending is justified as necessary for national security. For instance, maritime subsidies supposedly help maintain a fleet for an emergency. Laws require government agencies to use U.S.-flag vessels which are U.S.-built, U.S.-owned, and U.S.-crewed, costing two to four times the world market price of comparable vessels available elsewhere. When the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Agency for International Development give away surplus grain, they must use U.S.-flag vessels for at least 75 percent of shipments, adding $233 million to the taxpayer burden. The U.S.-flag requirement adds $1.75 billion to the defense budget. Subsidy per maritime job: over $100,000.
The defense budget is larded with waste not because its run by bad guys but because its big, and bureaucrats are, as always, spending other peoples money. The Pentagon has an operational support airlift consisting of some 500 airplanes and 100 helicopters for flying military brass and civilian bureaucrats on 1,800 trips a monthcosting taxpayers $380 million a year. Many of the destinations are served by commercial airlines.
Last year, the Pentagon announced it would spend $5.1 million to build a new 18-hole golf course at Andrews Air Force Base in suburban Maryland, which already has two. Golf Digest reported there are 19 military golf courses around Washington, D.C. Why a new golf course? One Pentagon official was quoted as saying a lot of golf gets played out there. On Saturday mornings, people are standing on top of each other.
Can It Continue?
How can such outrageous waste go on year after year? Simple: bureaucrats arent doling out their money, so they have little incentive to be responsible. Politically connected special interests, who are usually better off than the average taxpayer, seem to get most of the loot.
The most powerful special interest is government itself. In fiscal year 1993, the federal government owned 569,556 vehiclesone for every six full-time employees. Included were 117 limousines. The governments fleet expanded more than 130,000 vehicles since the Grace Commission called for it to be cut in half more than a decade ago.
I'd never get elected. Too honest. And brutal. And brutally honest. Plus I find the concept of ruling others to be nauseating.
And if by some miracle all the parasites stayed home on election day and I got into office, the first thing I'd do is dissolve 98% of the Federal government, sign an executive order making firearms ownership mandatory, and pull every member of the military back to the continental United States (telling them that before they left wherever they are currently stationed, grab as much loot as they could before they board that C-130 plus offer them $1000 bounty for each Muslim head they pacify) and put them on the border. Alaska doesn't need our help, and screw Hawaii.
Oh, and I'd declare all of Orange County CA to be a live fire practice range, and being a member of the Democrat Party to be an act of espionage to punished with death immediately upon experience of reasonable suspicion.
But thanks for the endorsement.
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen also wants to jettison NPR. Thanks Dubya-M-DeesWent2SyriaStupid!, and for that matter, thanks Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
They won't get it from President Palin and the Republican controlled Congress. Heck, they'll probably be looking for new office space after 2013.
LOL you are not PC that is for sure. I will be your VP.
Send all current Obama lovers and media to Caleyfornya.
Imagine... an airport with no CNN...
Imagine... there’s no liberals
I am moving to Texas.
Bring them to thier knees and then kick them in the ars and shuv them out the door
lol we cant even get them to pay their parking tickets
Let the Rockefeller family fund it since they started it. Is this the United States of Rockefeller or is it the United States of America? Since when does a wealthy family get to decide American policy?
The United Nations is just an updated version of the League of Nations which was also a failure.
Considering that of the current budget, 50 PERCENT is wasted through fraud and abuse, perhaps the best way to fix things is chop total expenditures in half and let the bureaucrats justify their existence and spending of other people’s money.
Defund the U.N.”
Never happen. I think it would be shot down by the Republicans who are in the pocket of the globalists.
About damn time.
Bring your guns, books, and chili recipes.
We don't need 'em, but they'll help us figure out where in the Republic of Texas you'll be most comfortable...
Now that we know who the rats are - the Democrats and RINOS, we can start targeting them and relentlessly exposing them for what they are. We need some Samuel Adams of our day to relentlessly go after the enemies of freedom. We now know that the RINOS are just wolves in sheeps clothing, they call themselves conservatives when it suits their selfish purposes but they only want to get close to us in order to subvert the conservative message. They have been playing this game for decades, enough people have caught on to this that we can do something about it. Another thing, the Democrats were the dominant party for seventy years since FDR. I think that era is finally coming to an end.
The Democrats and RINOS hit the conservatives with a one-two punch each side attacking the conservatives. The RINOS were the false friends while the Democrats were the enemy. Now I believe that Americans are finally getting the understanding that big centralized government is against the good of the people. If today’s conservatives start hammering away at the UN, eventually we will get out.
Remember, years ago, it was revealed that all our donations ever did was sit on the piers in Ethiopia, until the troops came by to steal the grain. Similar to donating to the RNC, we can’t control what happens to our money once it leaves our accounts. We should just donate to credible relief orgs and let the UN learn to live on a budget.
Let’s go one step farther and kick their sorry asses out of the country. They think their Old Europe is so great, let Old Europe foot the bills.
History hints that while international bodies do erode sovereignty, they do serve as a brake to those looking to start major wars.
In Canada, we managed to get ourselves off the security council with the UN, it’s a start heh. The country was in an uproar, and I said, hey, it’s a good thing. Heck, lets do one better and get right out of the UN altogether, and while we’re at it, relocate them to Kenya.
All the more reason to tell this bunch of high rolling freeloaders moved out to Euro or African pastures. Americans would benefit immensely.
