Another thing that statistics miss is that a lot of gun deaths are scum killing scum at no net loss to society. The only real issues in those cases are public disturbances, stray bullets, and sanitation.
Not to quibble, but that's the hobble they put on their critics, not themselves.
My thesis is less generous to the left. I think that it's clear that the nanny-state apparat very clearly understands that their interlocking "programs" all have combined to produce the chaos and misery that these homocide statistics testify to. I think that they also know that all of their proposals to remedy the problems that they themselves created will merely make those problems even worse, thus furthing the need for "programs" and the apparatchiks to staff, monitor, and administer those programs.
And they also realize that the appaling rates of murder among black teenagers have been an unmistakable indicator that their programs and strategies are not "working" (ie, solving the problem, rather than creating jobs and power for the bureaucratic elite.)
So, they seized on gun control, both as a red herring, a distraction, and as a way of occupying their enemies with the defense of their own rights.
These people are not stupid, not by a long shot. They're evil.
That too. But the question is: why are there so many people of a certain demographic cohort enaged in those sorts of behaviors?
Could it have anything at all to do with the destruction of th black family in those areas?
And what caused that?
And is more section 8, more welfare, more marginalizing the importance of black men the solution?
In many states most murders take place in their biggest city. In Michigan and Illinois 60-70% of murders happen in Detroit and Chicago.
Asking that question is racist, donn’t you know that?
IN any case, it is probably the what you suggested. Black males have been utterly marginalized in the urban jungle so they indulge in violent behavior to give their lives some sort of perceived meaning.
As for what caused that, I’d blame the War on Poverty and all subsequent related legislation. However, I’d also blame some of the racist legislation of the 1920s. Apparently, there was a thriving black subculture that disassembled during that period.
In any case, both catastrophes were the products of Democrats...
Can different welfare policies make a difference at the margin? Sure, but it will never be the game changer so many hope it will be.
I think most people instinctively know this.
Also, while the nominal violent crime rates have gone up greatly across all groups, the ratios of disparity have remained fairly constant with studies all the way back to the late 1800s. The illegitimacy ratios also show the same pattern.

Liberals can never be accused of being racists -- yet they constantly practice an insidious form of racism themselves.
Every liberal attempt to "help" the black man has served to make them more dependent on the government and more distant from a productive, prosperous life.
There really ought to be a law against governmental malpractice...

Ridicule is the only answer, ask them if that is why we have almost no illegal drug users, because cocaine, marijuana etc. are all banned. Gosh darned, that must be why there are so few murders, because murder is banned already. Liberals actually ARE mentally ill, you know.
