Like fellow Republican governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina, New Mexico's new governor, Susana Martinez, is her state's first female chief executive. She is also the nation's first Latina governor, as Haley is the first woman governor in the United States of Indian descent. But Martinez is not new to public service, having been a prosecutor for nearly a quarter-century. Her full biography is here. Her husband, Chuck Franco, has also had a long career in law enforcement. See the couple's photo below greeting a little girl.

Speak for yourself, Gov.
She doesn’t look Italian.
She is an actual wise latina.
Are you finding what she's saying in error? Do you think we're under-taxed?
I think you misunderstand, Susana is very much against raising taxes to close the state defecit. She cut cabinet secretary salaries, and reduced the expenses at the Gov’s residence over 55% compared to Richardson.
I absolutely did. My mistake.
Inconceivable!
LOL. Agreed.
The more I hear about this lady, the more I like her. I was contracting at a fairly large petroleum company in SE New Mexico a few weeks back when she shut down the State EIB. The employees (every one I worked with a conservative) were ready to throw a party.
Methinks this is not the sort of Latina the liberals were talking about when they promoted multiculturalism.
Get some!
Correction: We ARE over-taxed AND the government IS overspending.
Oooops.
I appear to have mis-read the first part of her statement.
I will now correct my previous correction by stating: I Agree 100%!
A couple of things about her personally. She has an older sister who is developmentally disabled with a mental age of five; she was taking care of her in Las Cruces after her mother died and has had to make other arrangements now that she is governor, which is hard on her. Before and after becoming DA of Dona Ana County, she prosecuted many cases of physical and sexual child abuse.
She is pro-life, pro-second amendment (she carries; was an armed security guard at 17 in El Paso), wants to repeal illegals driver's licenses, will miss shopping at Albertson's Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, doing fix-ups, at her house, gardening, etc. Was endorsed by Sarah Palin and won election with 53% of the vote in a heavily Democratic state. She does not tout her Hispanic heritage or gender but instead says her election was due to her education and work ethic.

Another female leading the Republican revolution...
Excellent.
No kidding, man, excuse the pun.
These ladies (Nikki Haley, Michele Bachmann, Sarah, Marsha Blackburn, the cowgirl from South Dakota-—sorry, her name escapes me) are going to rebuild the Republican Party from the ground (where all the men now grovel) up.
Get the pussies out of the way, the women are here!
She can speak for me as well. We need more people like Gov. Martinez in Office. She is terrific so far.
Saying “we are not under-taxed” means “we are taxed plenty”.
