Does Scalia belong at Bachmann sessions?

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., raised a few eyebrows last fall when she announced plans to hold "Conservative Constitutional Seminars" for arriving members of the new GOP-controlled House.

But the decision of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia to speak at the first class on Monday has raised legal hackles about his participation in what turns out to be a closed-door event in conjunction with Bachmann's Tea Party Caucus.

One of the most outspoken critics is University of Minnesota law professor Richard Painter, chief White House ethics lawyer under former President George W. Bush. Painter notes that Bachmann is among 63 House members who filed a brief in support of a lawsuit by more than two dozen states challenging President Obama's health care overhaul. The case could easily end up before the Supreme Court.

I view this as a covert strike against Sarah Palin.

Scalia indicates his preference for Bachmann.

Perhaps the professor should consider other ethical questions, such as Congress lying to us all the time.

It’s important to avoid the appearance of impropriety. He shouldn’t do it.

I’d be happy with Bachmann OR Palin.

I could be dead wrong but I really don’t think the same electorate that gave us Obozo will go for a conservative WOMAN. A conservative man probably has a better shot.

While the GOP continues to go Liberal RINO....Michelle Bachmann demonstrates real conservative leadership.

I don’t agree. He has every right to speak on Constitutional principles and philosophy. It’s called “educating the unwashed”, and there can’t be too much of it, based on the fact that 2/3 of young people voted Marxist in ‘08! Bob

Liberal ct members have been speaking at liberal political functions for decades.....they just don’t call it that...you see, conservatives have to identify themselves, liberals NEVER do.
