If two homosexual men want to use in vitro fertilization to conceive a baby and then use genetics technology to ensure the baby is also "gay," while disposing of any "straight" embryos, would the law have any ethical problems with that?
America's leading ethicist in the field of human reproduction has written a paper that argues future homosexual couples should have "the right" to do exactly that.
John A. Robertson of the University of Texas Law School is the chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and an advocate of what his book "Children of Choice" calls "procreative liberty."
In a paper for the Washington, D.C., think tank Brookings Institution, Robertson presents a futuristic scenario where advancing science and society's evolving morality could create a once only dreamed-of ethical dilemma:
"Larry, a pediatrician, and David, a wills lawyer, meet in their late 20s, fall in love, and marry on June 15, 2025, in Indianapolis," Robertson writes. "By 2030, they are well-enough established in their careers to think about having their own child. Larry's 24-year-old sister Marge has agreed to donate her eggs, and David will provide the sperm, so that each partner will have a genetic connection with the child. In the process, Larry and David come to realize that they would prefer to have a male child that shares their sexual orientation."
He continues, "The clinic doctors are experts in embryo screening and alteration, but cannot guarantee that the resulting embryos will in fact turn out to be homosexual. To increase the certainty, they will insert additional 'gay gene' sequences in the embryos."
While Robertson admits no such "gay gene" has yet been identified, he argues that genomic knowledge is "mushrooming."

That’s quite an accomplishment. These guys have inventented a whole new dimension of child abuse.
yiminy...
Cheese sticks? LOL
HEY TEXANS—do you like where your tax dollars are going to educate lawyers in the Lone Star State?
Breaded Mozzerella ... I’m gonna invent a mixed drink one of these days that incorporates cheese sticks, or string cheese ... Mmmm, this Bombay Gin is SOOOOO good! Just the perfect blend of flavors. The vapor wafts up through the sinues like nectar.
If they want their son to be gay, they have to hand him over to a pedophile at an early age.
Thank you. You posted my thoughts exactly! There is no "Gay gene."
What would happen if it was the gay embryos which were murdered? Would we be hearing about this story only on this site, or would it be all over the news?
“What would happen if it was the gay embryos which were murdered?”
You can bet that is exactly what would happen; the most adamant supporters of “gay rights” will privately confide that the behaviour is sickening & un-natural. Many parents that can determine that their child is gay before the legal cut-off for abortion will opt for that “solution”.
Look at how the abortion debate has come full circle in India: When people started aborting females disproportionately (a dowry can be several YEARS’ wages), the government outlawed abortions after the gender had been determined. The Indians either continued the practice with the complicity of their doctors, or when that failed, simply left the female infants to die on the side of the road. I guess “choice” is good, but only if you make the “choice” that the government determines to be in the best interests of the state...
Just a thought experiment regarding the “next shoe to drop” in gay marriage:
What if it is positively determined by geneticists that there is no gay gene and that this finding becomes generally accepted by society? Then in states that recognize gay marriage, it would almost certainly become legally acceptable for a gay couple to “reorient” a child that would otherwise have grown up with both oars in the water.
The problem is, as the twins study shows, you could CLONE your gay self and still not be sure you’d get a gay kid.
On the other hand, gay parents do a good job of turning their kids gay, but we can’t talk about that because you “can’t” turn someone gay, after all. It’s just random chance that the son of gay parents is more likely to be gay.
This one seems a lot easier than the all-too-real discussion a few years back, about whether two deaf parents have the right to genetically test to make certain that their child is deaf, because they want their child to grow up in “their culture”.
On a side note, why do we find that we have to constantly use "double quotes" in any discussion relating to these perverts nowadays?
Dang, I was just about to ask the exact same thing? Would gays care if a woman could abort or make all her kids be straight? They probably wouldn’t care or answer because they primarily just want to spite religion right now, and being pro-abortion is probably in the top five ways you can spite religion nowadays.
I figure that scientists will eventually discover that homosexual tendencies are determined, in part, by one or more combinations of recessive genes.
Why in the world would anyone want their child to become a butt-plunger or lady-licker?
“Why in the world would anyone want their child to become a butt-plunger or lady-licker?”
I’ve got no idea why. I’m just assuming that if a gay couple engage in a legal gay marriage, then there’s a fair chance that they are OK with main streaming butt-plunging and rug chomping. That doesn’ t necessarily mean that many or most of them would not be responsible adoptive parents. But as far as I know, this is probably uncharted territory.
Then there’s the question of whether State authorities would act with sufficient care in handling gay adoptions. Forget that. Amazingly, there have been efforts (reported in recent days) by school administrators and teachers to promote these “life styles” with small children in public schools.
Darwin is spinning in his grave.
