Three federal gun-control bills introduced Tuesday would help prevent such violence as the Tucson attack that left six dead and 14 injured, according to the New Jersey Democratic senators sponsoring the package.

The purpose of gun control is not crime control but people control.

The politicians understand this. The sheep don’t, won’t, and never will. This is the reason that the politicans use the concept of “crime control” to deprive the sheep of their means of defense as they are hearded to the execution pens.

You may be right; it may pass. They may use this similarly to the telescopic sight ban in your first book. But it gives a simple method of civil disobedience that can grow into bigger things: give a friend a full-capacity mag, and ask them to pass it on.

I have an idea: how about we shame some RINO into adding a “confiscation” amendment, requiring a door-to-door confiscation by the ATF of all mags > 10 rounds. It would backfire spectacularly. It would probably get thrown out by the courts (taking the whole law with it), and if not, would make the ATF as hated by the general public as the SS.

oops, 'we' wouldnt be able to talk eh ???

thats the game weve been asked to play for decades...

The only question is: will our currently owned magazines be grandfathered?

does it *really* matter in the grand scheme of things ???

any critter that cant articulate the 2A should be low hanging fruit anyways...

I swear to the Gods that these people are either criminally insane or too stupid to realize this isn’t going to turn out as they plan.

"I thought the reason the NRA was supporting Reid was to prevent this from happening."

I'll bite.

I suppose it's up to you and me to channel Captain Obvious and ask if there's any lesson to be learned in this situation.

Or was that then and this is now? Spilt milk, you know?

Maybe Travis and others are mistaken and it won't pass, who knows, but come on... Gabby Giffords ate lunch in the day and partied at nite with these guys... (prayers for a full recovery and rehab for the lady, BTW.)

I'd bet on it sailing thru the house.

Next stop, the Majority Leader of the Senate's inbox. Let's be fair and give the guy a chance... Time will tell... Right?

None of the three bills, if already enacted, would have prevented the Tuscon shootings. So they are lying about that.

We need to call them on their exploitation of tragedy to push “solutions” that wouldn’t even have made a difference in the tragedy.

Some conservative should announce they are introducing a bill to help prevent tragedies like the Tuscon shooting.

The bill should be to ban liberal democrats from being sheriffs.

Agree with you 100%.
FReepers incorrectly using the word "clip" instead of the proper term "magazine" is one of my all-time pet peeves.

The “Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Criminals Act” would allow the Attorney General’s Office to prevent firearm or explosive purchases by individuals who are on terrorist watch lists.

While this sounds good on the surface, it is dangerous because there is no due process about how someone is put on the terrorist watch list, there is no public access to the list itself so you won't even know if you have been put on, and there is no way to get off it once you have been put on it.

Remember the stories about how 3 year old children are not allowed to fly because they have the same names as a someone on the "no fly" list? You can GUARANTEE that the same thing will happen with this list, too.

Lautenberg’s office cited a Government Accountability Office report that identified 1,119 instances in which those on terror lists bought guns or explosives.

So, what did the FBI do about it? There certainly haven't been 1,119 terrorist incidents. Could it be that the list merely reflects people with the SAME NAMES who had legitimate reasons to make their purchases?

Good to know that some things are consistent in life;

Lautenberg is STILL a d*ckhead, and he’s training Menendez to be one too.

My answer to both of them:

F***’em.

Travis McGee, concur with you 100% liberals will use a far more graduated approach to their confiscation efforts this time.
They will seek to drive a wedge between the rural pumpgun duck hunter and the suburban resident with a semi-auto on his/her hip.

It won't be long afterwards until they seek to reduce magazine capacity from ten down to six.
That will be a component of the "Handgun Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Act of 2011" to be introduced later.

Probably.

Sounds like the no-fly watch list to me.

Lautenberg is one of the biggest enemies of the Bill of the Rights in the U.S. Senate.

For those who don't remember, he was the author of one of the biggest gun grabs enacted by Congress in the past two decades.
