DETROIT — Former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will travel from Milan federal prison to the federal courthouse in downtown Detroit Monday to appear on charges in a 38-count indictment alleging bribery and racketeering charges.
The former mayor will not be alone. Kilpatrick’s father, Bernard Kilpatrick, is also charged and will make his first appearance as a criminal defendant.
Federal authorities accuse Bernard Kilpatrick of taking tens of thousands of dollars in bribes in order to help businesses win lucrative contracts in the city run by his son.
Kwame Kilpatrick’s childhood friend and one time chief of staff Derrick Miller and good friend businessman Bobby Ferguson are named in the incitements.
