The brutal assault occurred Sunday after Joseph Naimo and his 74-year-old wife, Linda, celebrated his 81st birthday at their 3J's Variety Store on Victory Boulevard in Tompkinsville.
They left the store and walked a few steps to the door leading to their upstairs apartment.
A hulking man and his female cohort suddenly pushed them into the stairwell and knocked them to the ground.
The man punched and kicked Joseph, demanding, "Give me the money!" cops said.
Joseph, who is legally blind, offered his wallet and pleaded, "I don't have any more. Look!" according to his granddaughter Gina Naimo, 29.
"He saw there was no money in [his wallet] and he started taking it out on my grandmother, beating on her," Gina added. "My grandmother is the kind of woman that if somebody came in and wanted something and didn't have money, she'd give it to him."
Linda is in critical condition at Richmond University Hospital with a fractured skull, broken nose and broken jaw.

The couple was attacked Sunday, hours after celebrating Joseph’s birthday, as they entered their apartment building next to their 40-year-old 3J’s Variety Store."
"Police are offering a $12,000 reward for information on the attack. The two suspects are described by Naimo (who, on top of everything else is legally blind!) and verified by a witness who saw them running away as a tall black male around 6" in a dark-hued hooded sweatshirt and a short black female with a stocky build."

How unfortunate that New York is so uncivilized a place that it does not see it fit to apply the death penalty to convicted felons.

In the Revolutionary War, NYC was a hotbed of traitors, turncoats and Tories. The fat, farting, syphilitic females would flip up their skirts to any Redcoat.
The single biggest mistake made by General Washington was not burning that hellhole to the ground and turning it into farmland. We suffer for that mistake to this day. It’s not too late to correct that mistake.
The Post could have given descriptions of the perps so they hopefully would be caught and brought to justice.
Unfortunately most of the readers already knew what kind of person would take his girlfriend to mug an elderly couple. The girlfriend probably did most of the damage.

Wow...back in the day, I was looking at crap apartments right around the corner from there. Right at the start of Victory Blvd. A craphole neighborhood, but close as hell to the ferry.
I must have driven by their store thousands of times. The guys who did this should be taken out back and shot. In the old days, that would have happened too.

In the more distant good old days it was a beautiful section of Staten Island. Mostly Italian I believe. I had lots of relatives in Staten Island at one time.
Animals in the jungle act better than some of these savages.

Yeah, before the projects destroyed everything. I grew up in NYC, but the only part of it I can stand going back to and even miss sometimes is SI. Even in its current sorry state.
If I had spotted this article typo earlier I would have corrected it myself (6' = 6 feet, 6" = 6 inches).
