Key senators laud Obama ‘clean energy’ push (RINOs Graham, Lugar join Dems in supporting Obama plan)

President Obama’s call for Congress to pass a mandate that includes both traditional renewable energy sources like wind and solar as well as GOP favorites nuclear and “clean coal” may be the driver needed to bang through the most aggressive and politically feasible means of reducing greenhouse gas emissions on Capitol Hill this Congress.

Obama set a new goal in his speech Tuesday night, calling for 80 percent of U.S. electricity to stem from “clean energy” sources by 2035. “Some folks want wind and solar. Others want nuclear, clean coal, and natural gas,” Obama said. “To meet this goal, we will need them all – and I urge Democrats and Republicans to work together to make it happen.”

The idea of a “clean energy standard” has been batted around in recent years and has received bipartisan interest.

“Outstanding. It’s terrific,” said Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.).

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) have proposed the idea and Democrats like Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) have shown interest.

As a Hoosier I say a prayer that we can finally kick Lugar to the curb every time I see a headline like this, which has been more and more common lately.

Clean energy is fine and I’m all for it. But it takes time to accomplish it. If we banned the horse when Henry Ford came out with the Model T, we would have put the country out of business. It seems to me that this is what our politicians are trying to do to us now. My real question is....who’s getting all the kickbacks by pushing clean energy on us so fast? There is no other reason I can come up with other than money because it does none of us any good right now.

Amen. Meanwhile Drill Baby Drill. Let's use the oil, natural gas and coal and be independent of Mideast oil.
Develop this new stuff as we go, but no subsidies, Please.

Clean energy gets no cleaner than natural gas..
And since America has a couple thousand years of the stuff domestically ready to use..
NOT A WORD was spoken about natural gas..

Actually we have so much natural gas in some places it must be pumped back into the ground so they can get at the OIL..

Boehner should force these congressmen and senators to learn of this..
Investigate the current energy scams like wind and solar..
With a panel petroleum engineers.. make public the lies and half-truths.. and Utopian energy scams..

Lindsey Grahamnesty is one of the biggest weasels in the Republican party, and a great example of what is wrong with it. He needs to be voted out at the earliest possible opportunity (whenever that is).

If we got off Mideast Oil, it would make the Arabs mad and we can’t have that......according to the White House. Not using our own resources is one of the dumbest things our politicians have done to this country and it needs to stop. Note that no politician is addressing this problem.

I’m sure Graham got all wee-wee’d up when he heard nuclear at the SOTU—he’s been crying about that since it wasn’t mentioned in Obama’s first SOTU.

He went right on Greta that night 2009 or the next day and griped.

I agree we need nuclear but I think Graham would support just about any old ugly legislation to get it—that I don’t agree with.

Nuclear is awesome but not so awesome as to overcome all of the really NASTY legislation they want to shove in there with it.

I wouldn’t agree to eat a bowl of chit so that I could have a chocolate-chip cookie—Graham—I’m not so sure.

I keep on asking ANY Hoosier I find this question:...You have two really good, conservative, potential WH candidates..Daniels, and Pence...one of them won’t survive the first cut, when the weeding out process begins...so why not get the other to against Lugar. I’d wager that in a poll TODAY of likely GOP voters..both Pence and Daniels would be well ahead of Lugar..

That is a question a lot of people have been thinking about here, a strait Hoosier ticket of Daniels and Pence has been mentioned also.

It’s gotten to the point that I can pretty much decide the correct stance on an issue by taking the opposite stance of Graham.

I've read that there are one or two solid conservative GOP state legislators who are considering a primary run, but I think you're gonna need a bigger "name" to take out Lugar. BTW..will the current LT Gov run for the state house..?

If you post, or come across anymore local stuff on the Lugar situation, kindly ping me..thanks..

It seems as though Lugar has been trying to be more of a RINO lately. He is sure gong to give his primary opponent plenty of ammo. Maybe he wants to lose this time but just won’t retire.

Probably not at this point. The current Lt Gov Is Becky Skillman. We'd be lucky to have her as Gov but she's had some health problems lately so that may not happen.
