Going Rogue: Freshman congressman criticizes Bachmann speech

CHICAGO (WLS) - A Tea Party-backed congressman from the Northwest suburbs is criticizing a leading figure in the Tea Party movement.

Joe Walsh told Roe and Roeper that Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann should not have delivered a Tea Party response to the president's State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Walsh says her message took attention away from the main Republican speech by Congressman Paul Ryan.

"I mean there is no more Tea Party freshman on the planet than myself, but I'll be the first to say, respectfully, Michele had no business making that speech last night,” Walsh said. “I mean Paul Ryan gave the Republican response. We're all Republicans. I think it was a distraction that she did it, and it was just fodder for the media to do as you just said. To try to create this separation within the party."

Walsh was recently sworn in as a freshman congressman replacing Democrat Melissa Bean.

Joe Walsh seems to be a good guy and is entitled to his opinion, so I don't think we should call for the tar and feathers quite yet.

If he's referring to himself, Bachmann, and Ryan when he says "we're all Republicans", fine.

But even when represented by a strong Conservative like Rep. Paul Ryan, he should know that "we" are most definitely NOT "all Republicans"...and that the Republican party is on probation with most of us. Failure to follow the course outlined by Michelle Bachmann will be at their own peril.

Bachmann was giving a response for a webcast for the Tea Party Express, it wasn’t meant as an official rebuttal. CNN shouldn’t have been airing it.

Ryan’s speech after the SOTU did not impress me, and actually pee’d me off as the wording was Federal Gov solutions oriented at a time I believe the best solutions are in the deconstruction of the Fed back to it’s original design.

I did like Michelle Bachmann’s speech.

By the way - since Rep. Walsh’s email system won’t even accept a question from anyone outside his district, could any of my fellow Illini who live in the 8th district drop him a note and ask him “just who do you mean by “we”, Congressman?”

The republican party does not want to understand that the TEA party is NOT an arm of the GOP. This freshman congresscritter needs to take a deep breath and think a little. If GOP loyalty were sufficient, why would the tea party have sprung to life in the first place?

I liked Bachmann’s comment about buying light-bulbs the best. I just wish she had also mentioned the imaginary SS trust fund paying Seniors QE2 money from the Federal Reserve,

IF Bachmann took anything away from Ryan it is because he was too civil.

Conservatives, Tea Party, American Taxpayers don’t want “civil” (or in other words capitulation).

We want straight, bold, right to the point. WTF is the perfect example - learn it, live it, love you Republican hacks.

Poor dumb Joe. Michele's presentation was just the other barrel of a policy gun aimed at the socialists in Congress. Joe, you put yourself out to be a distracting fodder for the media. You're new. Keep quiet for a while and listen and learn from the more experienced folks.

“Bachmann was giving a response for a webcast for the Tea Party Express.”

Many lawmakers cannot wait to get to a microphone to give their response. Mr. Walsh knows very little about very little. The Dems will hand him his head shortly.

How does any of this help? Sure, Walsh is entitled to his opinion, but he should also realize the the Leftist media will seek to exploit any hint of division.

“We’re all Republicans.”

That’s his mistake. The Tea Party has emphasized from the word ‘Go!’ that it is *not* just a part of the Republican party, and that it refuses to be co-opted by the Republican party.

Many has been the time that the Tea Party has expressly refused to have Republican politicians address its functions, because it is adamant that it is *not* a Republican party organ.

In fact, the Tea Party has been at loggerheads with the Republican party leadership all through the election cycle, because the Republican leadership is far more concerned with electing “insiders” and “big tent moderates” than it is supporting conservatives and Tea Party sponsored candidates.

It would be well worth it, in fact, for the Tea Party to cultivate and sponsor “Tea Party Democrats”, who would have to be some of the most hard-assed and hard-charging people around, to challenge the Democrat leadership as well. Call them the “mule branch” of the Democrat party.

As long as such people embraced Tea Party values, and could take the vicious beating that the Democrat party would give them, then they could eventually become a new, non-socialist core for the Democrat party.

Almost eerie, isn’t it: “Tea Party Democrats”.

Obviously Joe Walsh hasn’t been in the loop.

Michelle Bachman was asked to speak by the Tea Party.

As has been noted, a lot of elected officials speak and or are interviewed after the State of the Union address by a president.

The mainstream media is going to try to divide the Tea Party and conservatives in Congress.

New members of Congress need to learn that the media is not their friend and learn how to keep their mouths shut and their opinions to themselves until they know all the facts.

Mr Walsh, you were supported heavily by the Tea Party. Michele Bachmann is one of the central figures of that organization. You have JUST arrived on the scene in Congress. Your role is to watch, learn and STFU.
