We won't always be the biggest (Leftist Nincompoop Looks Forward to China Surpassing US)
Washinton ComPost ^ | 1/26/2011 | Ezra "Look Ma, I'm an Ignoramus!" Klein

Posted on 01/27/2011 12:56:51 PM PST by mojito

...One of the first big applause lines of the speech came when Barack Obama said, "For all the hits we’ve taken these last few years, for all the naysayers predicting our decline, America still has the largest, most prosperous economy in the world." But as Matt Yglesias notes, soon, we won't. China will. And that's okay.

A decent future includes China's GDP passing ours. They have many, many more people than we do. It's bad for both us and them if the country stays poor. A world in which China becomes rich enough to buy from us and educated enough to invent things that improve our lives is a better world than one in which they merely become competitive enough to take low-wage jobs from us -- and that's to say nothing of the welfare of the Chinese themselves.

Since I don't know where to begin to dissect the utter fatuity and ignorance of these remarks by pantywaist blogger Ezra Klein, I thought I'd turn it over to FReepers capable hands.

At some point it is likely China’s economy will become larger than ours.

It will be a LONG time, if ever, before it becomes more prosperous.

Didn't the genius Klein recently observe that the U. S. Constitution was written over 100 years ago?

So much for the breadth of his knowledge.

Didn’t Bambi say something in the SOTU about a “humbled” US? The problem is that these leftist creeps actually want this to happen and are rooting for our demise.

There was a liberal idiot on Hannity a while ago who, when pushed to find something good Obastard had done, stated that Obama had taken those nasty factory jobs and shipped them overseas so that the (now unemployed) workers could do “better” things with their life. He was serious that it was better to have no job at all than to have one that was unpleasant but paid for your lifestyle.

Klein sits in a white room with thick padding, of course he's going to write some crazy stuff.

USA GDP: 14.72 trillion (2010 est)
Per Capita: $47,400 (2010 est)

China
GDP: 9.85 trillion (2010 est)
Per Capita: $7,400 (2010 est)

China can pass us in GDP all they want. It's people are still broke and oppressed.

Sounds like the same garbage Free Traders spew whenever I go after Free Trade with Communist China.

“Communist China will surpass America” is quoted often by the Free Traders...about as much as “I want my cheap HD TV”

Even with all the wealth and jobs shipped from America to Communist China....the Communist Chinese economy will never surpass the US economy. Note:

1. Communist China is still a one-party state which runs everything from their centrally-planned economy. It is a Communist Country....contrary to what Liberals and Free Traders claim

2. They cannot survive if the US does not buy their products. Communist China does not have another market to sell to, to make up any loss from the USA...which is why they will keep loaning the USA money.

3. Their forced Communist family planning (one-child) will catch up with them in 10-15 years.....wages will rise as fewer workers will be available....thus losing any advantage over the west with low wages.

Thanks for posting these stats. Communist China economy will never surpass the US economy. Its per capita GDP is worse than Mexico...and look at all the people fleeing Mexico because of poverty. Thank God Communist China is not just a bridge crossing from El Paso....

But it certainly gives China the capacity to overtake America militarily and flex its muscles. Remember that the Chinese government does not have to factor in appeasing traitorous leftist imbeciles when it comes to funding their military or using their resources to influence other countries to their advantage...

There, fixed it to reflect the progressive utopia

[Moron Klein] A decent future includes China's GDP passing ours.

Klein assumes China wouldn't use her newfound wealth to come after us, like Philip II went after England and Darius I Hydaspes went after the Greeks at Marathon.

Why does this idiot assume that the Chinese will break with 4000 years of their own history and not go asymptotically expansionist?

On what basis does he project that China wouldn't use their wealth and manufacturing capacity to equip the world's first 40,000,000-man army to come take Siberia and North America? Is it the celebrated Chinese "pacifism gene"? Oh, wait -- they don't have one. Next argument?

Don't think for five seconds that they haven't had the atlases out.

If I were Australian or Siberian, I'd be very worried. And Alaska and Canada are just a short jump across the Bering Strait.

It still perplexes me, that when people talk about a country with four times the US population, with the potential to surpass the US in nominal GDP, that it brings about animosity. It shouldn't.

We live in a world with dictators from Tunisia to Egypt. And many Americans seem more worried about a country that could become a larger economy than the US.
