A Presidency to Nowhere

A Presidency to Nowhere

High-speed rail and solar shingles are not the answer to America's "Sputnik moment."

No president before Barack Obama has been so right and so wrong.

When in his State of the Union speech Mr. Obama said, "This is our generation's Sputnik moment," citing the emergence of global competition from the likes of China and India, he was right.

Minutes later he proposed to cover the country with high-speed rail and companies making solar shingles.

High-speed rail and solar shingles? If that's the president's idea of meeting our Sputnik moment, then Houston, we have a problem.

About halfway into the speech, I began to wonder: What is John Boehner thinking? Let's first welcome back the tradition of House Speakers who bring nothing but a poker face to the State of the Union. (The vice president re-tightening his tie in the middle of the speech was a minor Biden classic.)

Are the Russians still going to the moon??

What was the next generation after Sputnik? What did they accomplish??

Is there a huge middle class in Russia making lots of things and earning an honest living??

WARNING, DANGER. BARF ALERT!

A few quotes from the Obama Media Group (OMG)

“One of the most quotable moments of last night’s speech was that “This is our generation’s Sput”nik moment.” The original Sputnik moment was born of the Soviet launch of the eponymous satellite in October 1957. It was a wake-up call to Americans that they needed to be smarter about the space race.”

“Today, the primary technological challenge is the need to develop a fossil fuel-free economy.”

” As Obama invoked the “Sputnik moment” analogy in the SOTU, it felt like a whistle was blown to start the clean energy race.”

As President Obama made clear this week, this moment was all about “winning the future,” which America did during the mid twentieth century. Clearly, in these times, the magic of that moment is needed again. “

All he can do is parrot those little socialist handbooks written so long ago and so long since disproved.

Obama worked so hard at becoming the very best socialist he could--at memorizing those little handbooks, at learning the party line--but he never learned how to think.

As an aside, note that thinking--rational thought, logic, empirical reasoning--is antithetical to socialism. It is thinking that gets a good socialist in trouble. "Learn the program...and leave the thinking to Marx, Lenin, Alinsky."

He spent his entire life worshiping that single ideology and neglected the development of his creative instincts. He can't think on his feet, he can't think in his seat...he can't think, period. When faced with a problem, all he can do is whip out his little handbooks and lecture his public on those ancient outdated and long disproved socialist solutions.

Now when faced with the need to change and create...to innovate, he is completely lost.

He has only one answer to all problems...spend, baby, spend.

I think by “Sputnik moment” he means that within 30 years the nation will be destroyed, or at least that’s the plan.

I thought Boehner’s immitation of a stump was outstanding! No really, I did. He had a studied look that just said, “This is the purest form of useless, driveling, platitude laced bull spit I ever heard.”

I think the *Sputnik Moment* was telling.

I'm sure Grand-mammy and Grand-daddy Dunham, Commies through and through, had many a fascinating dinner discussion on how fab the Soviets were and how they were whipping our capitalist arses.

Can you imagine Reagan saying this? It would be THE VERY LAST THING Reagan would ever say.

I listen to a lot of radio (work at home) and listen to as much lefty view points as I can find. The way they are trying to give Barry a Regan vibe...well it would be hilarious if it wasn't so vile. NO you Obots on the left! Barry is NOT like Regan! Liars and hypocrites the lot of them. These same fools hated Reagan and everything he stood for. Now, Barry is just like him! I heard that there is a pic on Time magazine that shows Regan with his arm around Barry. I haven't seen it...just heard about it...and the explanation the stupid lefty gave as to just HOW they are alike? Beyond comprehension.

I can't wait until this fraud is out of the White House and the Left in the media (most of them) are humiliated for propping up this creepy little man.

Remembering back to those days of yore, we already
were in a space race and having our troubles when
we were beaten by the soviets who put up a barely
working satellite, of course uncle Walter and the
big three praised this vanguard of socialist
innovation which spurred us on to even greater
triumphs which the soviets never really matched.

Now we are seeing ourselves beaten at our own game
by our own politicians who would rather give away
the funding needed for space developement for green
wind turbines and compost powered energy sources.

It’s a racket I tells ya.

I'm thinking the solution might be to have NASA focus its creative energy on a giant muslim outreach.

Yeah, that's the ticket!

Save that tee-shirt! The Left may need it for the next Tucson-style memorial/Obama pep rally.

"never really matched" is an understatement. All their achievements were marked by a pronounced crudity. The famous "dark side" photo was achieved by a high speed fly-by of the moon and a look-back with a crude photo telemetry setup. Still it worked, and it was first, but they never came close to "landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth."
