But superior officers decided to ignore the advice because the unit was short of intelligence analysts and needed Manning's skills, two military officials familiar with the investigation told McClatchy.Sounds like a few "superior officers" should be fired after being court marshalled. Dishonorable, with forfeiture of pay and pension after doing prison time.
That is exactly how muslim militants have infiltrated our intelligence and diplomatic services : their "special skills" are needed.
Is being a moron and a pervert now a requirement for becoming a U.S. military officer?

You are illustrating exactly why my son after 13 years, is coming out disgusted with the wishy-washy convoluted "disciplinary" measures, just as you described to a "t". PC devours itself eventually, confusion reigns, what a shame. We all know such stand-up soldiers/Marines, PC will destroy our good military.
B4Ranch, I'm assuming that by "off limits" you mean "rules" imposed by commanding officers, JCS, etc., the UCMJ still stands regardless, or did someone repeal ART 125 while I was asleep?
ART. 125. SODOMY Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration , however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense.
(b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

These days, I doubt if it is being enforced unless it occurs outdoors during the daytime in front of witnesses with cameras.
