A Victory for Democracy
Chicago Sun Times ^ | January 28, 2011 | Editors

To exclude Emanuel, to throw him off the ballot because he had the temerity to go to Washington to serve the president, would have been an outrage against this inclusive spirit of democracy. And, according to Thursday’s slap-down of the state Appellate Court’s Monday ruling, it would have tossed out 150 years of settled residency law.

We have defended Emanuel’s right to be on the ballot in two earlier editorials, leading some to question whether we would have so forcefully run to the defense of a less prominent candidate.

In truth, probably not, though the same legal and common-sense arguments would apply.

How can we complain about a so-called “Court” allowing Rahm Emanuel to run for mayor, even though he is NOT a Chicage resident, when his boss, Hussein Obama, who does not even have a US Birth Certificate, is President? At least Rahm HAS a Birth Certificate!

Well I hate to say it but if there were only two real contenders and the vote was close and the two were Mosely-Braun and Rahm I’d vote for Rahm.

Yeah, I couldn’t get 6 words in..

I don’t think when you by pass the law that was put in place to protect you from someone who hadn’t resided there for a year prior to running and then let them run is democracy. But on the bright side, maybe someone from California will run next time in Chicago..?

“Inclusive spirit of democracy” and “serve the President”?

It’s so hard to find comedy these days. Thanks, Chicago.

So, what??? HAHAHA....you don’t know about Chicago. Rahm (and others like Hussein) make knocking people off the ballot a game and it’s LEGAL....I’ll bet the reason he got hassled was because he REALLY leased his house with a contract and the lessees did NOT want to end the lease until the end of the contract...so, really, Rahm did NOT have a residence in Chicago....he had rental property. So..since I have rental property in Washington and live(d) in Oregon....I can demand to be put on the ballot in Washington?

Judicial BS. He accepted the job in Washington. No one forced him to take it and live in Washington all that time. He was not elected as members of congress are. He did it for money and fame, not as “service”. On the other hand, Chicago’s voters deserve whatever comes.

Utter wickedness = black is white, up is down, evil is good, good is evil.

You could not pay me to live in Chicago or IL = TOTALLY CORRUPT CITY AND STATE, THUGOCRACY. If I did live there I would hang my head in shame over the SHAM that passes for "Law and Order". Then I would do everything in my power to move out of there ASAP because Chicago and IL IS Animal Farm where all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

It all goes on intent now. Hey, I have intent to be a resident of Chicago, so I can run for mayor. I drove through there once about twenty years ago, so that should suffice for the residency requirement.
