This was one of the aircraft Jerry Brown was using during his campaign. Mexico loaned it to him, but said they expected nothing in return.

The aircraft was in Van Nuys for repairs. They were likely going to do some bumps and circuits and something went awry.

According to the SF Gate, the aircraft was at Van Nuys airport for repairs. It is likely that the aircrew tried to make a little post-repair flight and had a boo-boo.

Ah yes, Heff’s ol DC-9-32. The interior was pretty tricked-out; I saw some photographs of the cabin in an aviation publication. I think the aircraft was sold to a Venezuelan customer in the mid-1970s.
