Carter Redux?

Steve McCann

For those who lived through the 1979 Iran revolution and the abandonment of the Shah of Iran by the Carter administration, there is a tangible sense of foreboding as to what form the outcome of the current upheaval in Egypt will take.

Like Carter, Obama has made overtures to the Islamists. 1n 1978 Jimmy Carter was on the side of "human rights" and eagerly embraced Ayatollah Khomeini. Carter's UN Ambassador Andrew Young went so far as to call him "some kind of saint".

It now turns out that in 2009, the Egyptian daily Almasry Alyoum reported that President Obama secretly met with representatives of the jihadist Muslim Brotherhood, the Hamas and Al Qaeda ally that has been barred by the US and put on the terror watch list by the Bush administration. By doing so and choosing Egypt as the locale for his Muslim outreach speech, in which he never once used the words "terrorism", "terrorist" or "war on terror," the question must be asked: Did or does the Obama administration realize the difference between freedom-based revolutions (which do not include jihadist elements) and violent overthrows orchestrated by the same jihadists. Secretly meeting with the jihadist elements can only embolden them.

There are numerous reports out of Cairo that the islamist element has not only helped foment this uprising but is now taking control of it.

As an editorial at the Investor's Business Daily points out:

Bet the President didn't think he was planting the seeds of today's protests in Egypt. But what does he expect when he goes to a country in a decades-long police-enforced state of emergency, with tens of thousands of political prisoners, and announces that "you must maintain your power through consent, not coercion."

He may have awakened a sleeping giant. Too bad the Iranian people didn't receive the same favor a year and a half ago when they were protesting in the streets against a regime that makes Egypt look Jeffersonian by comparison.

Further:

Even so, should Mubarak fall, there is a real danger of the Islamic Brotherhood imperiling this US ally. Barack Obama sure picked a foolish place to give a community organizing speech.

There is no question that Mubarak ran a quasi police state; but there were ways to force democratization on Egypt over the years without making overtures to radical elements and giving them an effective wink and a nod. Is this 1979 all over again? The world cannot afford another Iran on the shores of the Mediterranean thus in control of the Suez canal and completing an encirclement of Israel. That will almost guarantee a Middle East War.

Electing a democrat fascist, at any level of government, is agreeing that we need to grant Islam the right to control any government we can help weaken for them. Local democrats grow into State democrats who grow into Federal democrats. No matter what level they're at, they're all going to the same destination whether they call their brand of dictatorship Islam or not.

Carter, Clinton, and now Barry Soetoro, each has granted Islam a free hand to overthrow governments and put Islamic rule in place. How can anyone believe that a democrat is going to be willing to confront Islam in order to protect us?

That said, what are we to make of the fact that W allowed BOTH Iraq and Afghanistan to form new Governments based on Islam being the "Controlling Authority?"

Our "Compassionate Conservative" was both naive and allowed himself to be misled and deceived by the likes of RINO Condi as well as one of the most dangerous Islamo-Fascist supporters and operatives (Faux Conservative) Grover Norquist.

Why he is still accepted--much less tollerated--in Republican/Conservative circles, I'll never understand.

He facilitated the entre of stealth Jihadist groups such as CAIR and worked to pressure the FBI, DHS, DOD, etc. to hire--and thus give access to--more and more Moozies who also influenced our policies.

This was obvious after 9/11 when Bush came out swininging, but after being "Bitch-slapped" by the likes of Norquist and CAIR, became just another clueless, dupe and began parotting the ol' Islam a "Religion of Peace" canard.

There is NO way either Iraq or Afghanistan will EVER be a true ally (they can not even be our friends, according to the Qur'an) and in time, will both become our sworn enemies.

If Mubarak goes, count on the MB to have a voice in this new so-called "Democratic" Government and I'm giving 10-1 odds that Sharia WILL have a dominant role--if not controlling--in the new regime.

Pray for Israel, cuz the noose is tighenting around its neck by the day and all our Moozie-loving, Community Agitator in Least is doing is letting them hang out to dry.

You forgot President Bush when he invited the Islam President to the White House and even held his hand. Yuk. Also President Reagan invited some Islam folks to the White House especially Iran.

Egypt has all the makings to become Iran two. Get ready for long lines at the gasoline stations as the Mideast is destabilized once more.

“That said, what are we to make of the fact that W allowed BOTH Iraq and Afghanistan to form new Governments based on Islam being the “Controlling Authority?””

When will the U.S. ever accept that there are some things we just can’t fix? Sure, we can send a few hundred thousand troops over to the ME to rout an evil dictator but how does that help in the long run?

It’s the freaking ME. They have been fighting over scraps of land for millenia, and they will still be exhibiting the same kind of immature approach to life long after we are gone from this earth.
