EXODUS: Obama Admin to Evacuate U.S. Citizens From Egypt Starting Monday
Sunday, January 30, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/30/2011 11:41:02 AM PST by kristinn

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Ms. Jacobs (missed her first name), speaking on CNN said that the U.S. government is chartering planes to evacuate Americans from Egypt, with the first flights scheduled to depart on Monday.

Jacobs urged those with tickets for commercial flights out of Egypt to use those tickets. She also said the State Dept. was bringing in more consular officials to help Americans in Egypt.

Jacobs asked people to not go to the airport yet. She said details would be announced later today.

Jacobs did not say anything about whether the U.S. embassy and consular offices would also be evacuated.

Who are they in danger from?

Seems to me that if Egypt were really on the threshold of democracy they would be safe. Mubarak hasn’t threatened them that I’m aware of.

Why should Americans leave Egypt now? I get the feeling that the worst is behind us and that Mohammed ElBaradei will be taking over in a day or two. If our people have made it through this long then they might as well stay on in Egypt.

Story by an Iranian about the revolution in 1979--written in 2009....see if this sounds like Egypt today:

And so it was, thirty years ago, during these very months past, that we stormed ministries, prisons and government buildings, sat down in school yards, refused to go to or teach classes, went on strike in factories, oil refineries and petrochemical plants, marched in the streets in hundreds, then thousands, and soon in hundreds of thousands.

The revolution had such a force that even in the most laidback towns, like Shiraz, people started taking to the streets in the tens and hundreds of thousands. In the famously mellow town of our beloved poets Sadi and Haafez, where martial law was declared last and lifted first, I saw hundreds of thousands in the streets and it was a sight to behold.

Link to whole story:

Obama and his administration are inept. The U.S. ambassador just said American citizens in Egypt should use the internet to get information on safety!

Yeah, that thing that’s been down since Tuesday.

What idiots. Carter Part Deux.

I guess it will be within a week when we see the heliocopters landing on the embassy of the US in Cairo. Another disaster under the auspices of another left wing president.

Frankly, I think (.)bama should fly in and organize the flights out. In fact, as the commander, he should be the last to leave or go down with the ship so to speak.

Well, Saha’s basketball game and the partying in DC by obama and thugs would have interfered with any plans for US citizen safety.

There was a woman on CNN just before the State Dept. spokeswoman. She is trapped on a cruise ship docked at Luxor. Said she was given a number to call. The message said to get info from the Internet, which as you note is down. She said the message also said if this was an emergency press (whatever) and then she was put on interminable hold.

The woman, Laura Murphy Lee, also said she spoke with the U.S. ambassador to Egypt. She said the ambassador was clueless as to how dangerous it is on the streets. She also said the ambassador told her she should be happy that she was safe on a ship.

Does Odumbass WANT another hostage crisis ala Jimmuh Carter?

Keep in mind that the diaper-heads release the hostages within SECONDS AFTER Reagan being sworn into office.

I have always believed that he warned them his first official act would be to start bombing one minute after he became president

Good!! IMHO it is inevitable, as the unrest continues, that Americans will become target, verbal at the least. Already the protesters are pointing to the “made in USA” on the tear gas canisters and verbally blasting American support for Mubarak in the past. With 82% of the Egyptians viewing Americans negatively, things can only get worse.

Looks like Obama is throwing Mubarak under the bus. He is now calling for an "orderly transition":

U.S. President Barack Obama voiced support for an "orderly transition" in Egypt that is responsive to the aspirations of Egyptians in phone calls with foreign leaders, the White House said on Sunday.

Obama spoke by phone on Saturday with Saudi King Abdullah, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and on Sunday to British Prime Minister David Cameron.

"During his calls, the president reiterated his focus on opposing violence and calling for restraint; supporting universal rights, including the right to peaceful assembly, association, and speech; and supporting an orderly transition to a government that is responsive to the aspirations of the Egyptian people," the White House said.

Just a day or so ago the Muslim Brotherhood called for "orderly transition." Not only is Obama expressing the same sentiment, he is using the same language. Fabulous. True or not, it could EASILY be construed as solidarity with the Ikhwan.

“Who are they in danger from?”

I’ve been following this closely since my friend’s daughter was there for one month as an exchange student. They were to leave in four days, but were lucky to fly out this morning.

Mob rule is taking over. People are being robbed. There is no police protection. Fires are being set, and no one comes to put them out. Looters are not only looting stores, they are going into the wealthy neighborhoods outside the main cities.

The last report was that 10,000 prisoners all over Egypt either escaped or were allowed to go free. Guards left their posts and opened the gates. Yesterday, it was reported that 5,000 of those prisoners came from prisons in Cairo.

Banks, grocery stores, and restaurants are closed. ATM machines don’t work; banks have closed. The government disabled cell phone signals and the internet.
