WikiLeaks: Britain secretly advised Libya how to secure release of Lockerbie bomber

Ministers secretly advised Muammar Gaddafi’s Libyan regime how to secure the successful early release of the Lockerbie bomber, documents obtained by The Daily Telegraph have disclosed.

A Foreign Office minister sent Libyan officials detailed legal advice on how to use Abdelbaset al-Megrahi’s cancer diagnosis to ensure he was released from a Scottish prison on compassionate grounds.

The Duke of York is also said to have played a behind-the-scenes role in encouraging the terrorist’s release.

The Libyans closely followed the advice which led to the controversial release of Megrahi – who was convicted of the murder of 270 passengers on Pan Am Flight 103 – within months of the Foreign Office’s secret intervention.

The disclosure seriously undermines British Government claims that is was not complicit in the release of al-Megrahi, and that the decision to free the convicted terrorist was taken by the Scottish Executive alone.

It will also lead to renewed pressure from senior American politicians on David Cameron to release all internal documents detailing Britain’s role in the scandal. Last summer, the Prime Minister pledged to release the relevant information – but the publication has yet to occur sparking fears that a cover-up may have been ordered.

The Daily Telegraph today publishes more than 480 American documents detailing international relations with the Libyan regime over the past three years.

no,,, but if the king had secret agreements that hitler should target American bases and leave london alone,,, you should. They do not have a right to conceal treachery. Unless you equate helping a mass murderer go free with keeping D-day secret,,, silly trite argument.

Assange is a narcissistic drama queen, but this stuff shows that our governments really are being run by a bunch of evil people.

Good on you, Mr. Assange.

He's doing it because he loves America and want to keep her safe. /sarc

We like the leaks that serve our cause. Mark my words, Wikileaks will hurt our country and may end up getting people you love killed.

Intelligence is meant for those we entrust it to.

It's not a perfect system but it's all we got.

If I was King, Assange and Manning would have had their necks stretched after a very brief trial.

Hell, these two homos only did it all as blackmail for the repeal DADT and Obama ending up giving that away for free.

This whole thing will be looked back upon as a sad moment in our history.

Don't like your premise. You assume I'm against Hitler. My argument stands.

June 5, 1944. I've got some inside info on a little plan that may affect international relations. Do I post it?

Might as well. They know it's coming. They just don't know what day or what beach(es). The Germans have heard all kinds of stories and they have to sort through the misinformation to pick the right one.

Hitler had some allies in Spain. The D-Day planners took a cadaver, put some documents on him to indicate where and when the invasion would be and let the body land ashore in Spain. The info was taken to the Germans and based on that info, Hitler set orders for fortifications way north of the actual invasion point.

They weren’t stupid. They practiced counterespionage techniques and gave out misinformation. Hey, they might even have mention Normandy as an alternative. The Germans certainly thought Normandy was an alternative.

But, these leaks are different. They show that the people in the US and UK governments are doing some dirty deals and they are trying to keep secrets from the public.

What national security is threatened by exposing how Hillary Clinton tried to buy support for the Global Warming Copenhagen treaty to enslave American taxpayers?

I don't know, but I'm sure the orthodox FReeper response is "I hope the government murders enough foreign nationals before they can release the details on how corrupt it is. Too much information about the evils our government does in the hands of the people is dangerous.".

So...are the Liberal Globalists still wanting to execute Julian Assange?

Yes, I am torn between wanting to see him hanged and wanting to give him a medal.

Let’s not forget Obama’s letter suggesting he wouldn’t be averse to the release on compassionate grounds.

I want to hear from those who think getting this information out is bad. I think governments have no right to do this kind of garbage behind our backs. If they function in daylight,,, they might actually have to do that which we would approve of.

Dude, I guarantee that you are seeing from wiki exactly what "governments" want you to see.....get a grip and get a clue.....

Any US President worth his salt would have forcefully let the UK know that this would not be acceptable as soon as the issue was first whispered about.

They would not even considered this if Obama told them he would fight it vigorously and retaliate diplomatically and economically.

Of course, for that to have happened, you would need to have a US President that loved the US more than Islam.
